Essay on The Holy Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم)

Our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) was born in Makkah in the famous tribe of Quraish. His father, Abdullah died before his birth. So his mother, Amna Bibi looked after him. But she also died when he was only six years old. New, his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib took charge of him, but he did not live long. Finally, his uncle, Abu Talib looked after him and never left him alone in any hardship.

Our Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) married Khadija, a wealthy lady of Makkah when he was twenty-five years old. Hazrat Khadija handed over all her wealth to our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) to spend for good and noble purposes. He helped the poor and needy. When our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) reached the age of forty he was commanded by Allah, the Almighty to preach Islam. Our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) started preaching that there is no God but Allah who is the creator of the universe and to whom all human beings would return.

The people of Makkah accepted Islam very slowly. In the beginning, only a few people accepted the new religion. The Makkans indeed became the sworn enemy of the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and his follower. They created all sort of troubles for the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) but he stood firm. At last, they planned to kill the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) and he was compelled to leave for Medina where he was accorded a warm welcome by his followers. But the infidels did not allow him to live even there in peace. They fought several battles in order to wipe out the followers of Islam. However, Allah granted strength to our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) to defeat them and come out successful in his mission.

After ten years stay in Medinah, the Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) came back to Makkah with ten thousand of his followers and conquered Makkah. On the day of his conquest, he could severely punish those who caused so much trouble and planned to kill him, but he excused everybody. After that, the new religion prospered by leaps and bounds.

Our Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H) returned to his Creator at the age of sixty-three. He left for his followers the Holy Quran and the Sunnah.

My favorite personality is our Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H), who is the last messenger of Allah in this world upon whom the revelation of the Quran was sent. In a Hadis Allah says to Hazarat Adam “I Muhammad would not be created you also not be created”. Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is the person who encompasses all the good qualities in his personality, as Hazrat Ayesha (R.A) wife of Prophet (P.B.U.H) narrated, “Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is the living example of Quran, he is an embodiment of Quran.” He is the last prophet. He was born in Makah in the year 570. Before the birth of Muhammad (P.B.U.H) people in Arab was completely indulged in every kind of malevolent activities, darkness was prevailing, whole Arab was affected by the vices of humankind, then there came the time when a ray of hope emerged with the birth of Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). Due to his chivalry, Prophet (P.B.U.H) became very popular in the city of Makkah, people used to call him honest because of his pious character, when he reached the age of 40 first revelation of Quran was sent to him in Gar-e-Hira, the angel Gabriel brought a message from the Creator which is mentioned in Surah Iqra, “Read with the name of thy Lord, Who created you Read.”

After the advent of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) started preaching the people of Mecca as well as others in Arab. He became a source of light for the people who were lost in immense darkness and chaos. He acted as a savior and a preacher of Islam, but things were not easy for him. Our beloved Prophet (P.B.U.H) had to face many troubles, trials, and tribulations. His life was filled with a lot of calamities and chaos, he was at first betrayed and stabbed by his own people and family but he endured everything just for the sake of his Ummah. At present one-fifth of the people of the world are the followers of this great and noble prophet.

All Muslims are grateful to him for his achievements. In the modern world, everyone wants peace in their life; people are working like machines to gain success, fame, and money. Many famous figures recognized him as an important person in the history of mankind. For having peace in life one has to follow golden principals of Islam set forth by the best Teacher, Preacher or Mentor of this world, our Holy Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The Holy Prophet(saw): A Messenger of Peace and Reconciliation

Introduction The Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) – the perfect exemplar, the prince of peace, the pride of the universe – whose life was immaculate and whose character unimpeachable, came into the world as a mercy for all mankind. Yet, for centuries, the opponents of Islam have consistently ignored all that was patently good, noble and beneficent in his life, example and teachings and have attempted to portray him, God forbid, as blood-thirsty and violent. Crude and offensive caricatures and cartoons have been produced in books and newspapers to demonstrate their malice and brazen attitude towards the Holy Prophet (saw) .

The Holy Prophet (saw) has also been greatly misrepresented by some of his own followers, both in medieval and present times, who have committed enormities and monstrous crimes in his fair name. However, the Holy Prophet (saw) was indeed a Messenger of Peace and Reconciliation.

Islam a Religion of Peace It is a great distinction of the Holy Prophet (saw) that the very religion he founded bears a name the literal meaning of which is “peace”. The word “Islam” indicates the very essence of the religious system known by that name. The teachings of the Holy Prophet (saw) guarantee and establish peace at all levels and in all spheres: individual, social, economic, national and international.

One who becomes a Muslim not only enters a safe haven but also guarantees it for others. The Holy Prophet (saw) defined a Muslim as one whose word or deed cause no harm to others. ‘Peace’ is the greeting of Muslims and ‘Peace’ shall also be the greeting of the dwellers of Paradise.

Inter-Religious Peace That the great religions of the world are many in form yet one in origin is a truth now widely recognised and accepted but before the advent of the Holy Prophet (saw) that truth was quite unknown. It was from the desert of Arabia and from the mouth of the unlettered Prophet (saw) that the great truth was promulgated that our God is the Lord, not of any particular tribe or nation, but of all peoples and all nations and that there is no people who have not been blessed with Divine guidance through prophethood.

God has been equally merciful and beneficent to all nations. If He raised the Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) from Arabia, then He also raised Moses (as) from Egypt, Jesus (as) from Judea, Buddha (as) and Krishna (as) from India, Confucius (as) from China and Zoroaster (as) from Iran. Though their teachings were limited in their scope and have subsequently been interpolated, these prophets were the propagators of the same fundamental truths about the Unity of God. Islam is the only religion which accepts the founders of all revealed religions as Messengers of God and makes it incumbent upon its followers to believe in all of them. Comb through the pages of all religious scriptures and you will not find a similar teaching in them. A Christian may look upon Holy Prophet Muhammad (saw) as an impostor, a Jew may regard Jesus (as) as a false Prophet, a Hindu may consider Moses (as) a charlatan, but a Muslim leaves the pale of Islam the moment he fails to accept all of them as Prophets of God. This is the most practical step Islam has taken towards creating an atmosphere of peace and goodwill among the followers of various faiths. Since the creation of man, no prophet other than the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) has brought such a teaching.

Respecting religious sentiments is another invaluable lesson taught to us by the Holy Prophet (saw) . Once, during his lifetime, a Muslim and a Jew were involved in an argument. Both claimed and counter-claimed the relative superiority of their respective prophets. It appears the Muslim contender may have made his claim in a manner which wounded the susceptibilities of the Jew as he approached the Holy Prophet (saw) and lodged a complaint against the Muslim. Upon hearing the complaint, the Holy Prophet (saw) admonished against being unmindful of the sentiments of others. ‘Do not exalt me above Moses’, he said. This is despite the fact the Holy Qur’an declares him superior to all prophets. Such were the high standards of decency and courtesy the Holy Prophet (saw) required of his followers even in the throes of a heated theological debate.

The Charter of Freedom which he granted to St. Catherine’s Monastery in Mount Sinai in 628, the 6th year of Hegira, is, perhaps, the best illustration of the Holy Prophet’s desire for inter-religious peace. This monumental document is unprecedented in the history of mankind. It states:

“This is the document which Muhammad, the son of Abdullah, God’s Prophet, Warner and Bearer of glad tidings has caused to be written so that there should remain no excuse for those coming after. I have caused this document to be written for the Christians of the East and West, for those who live near, and for those of the distant lands, for the Christians living at present and for those who will come after, for those Christians who are known to us and for those as well whom we do not know. Any Muslim violating or distorting what has been ordained will be considered to be violating God’s Covenant and will be transgressing against His Promise and by doing so, will incur God’s wrath, be he a monarch or an ordinary subject. I promise that any monk or wayfarer who will seek my help on the mountains, in forests, deserts or habitations, or places of worship, I will repel his enemies with my friends and helpers, with all my relatives and with all those who profess to follow me and will defend them, because they are my covenant. And I will defend the covenanted against the persecution, injury and embarrassment of their enemies in lieu of the poll tax they have promised to pay. If they prefer to defend their properties and persons themselves, they will be allowed to do so and will not be put to any inconvenience on that account. No bishop will be expelled from his bishopric, no monk from his monastery, no priest from his place of worship, and no pilgrim will be detained in his pilgrimage. None of their churches or other places of worship will be desolated or destroyed or demolished. No material of their churches will be used to build mosques or houses for the Muslims; any Muslim doing so will be regarded as recalcitrant to God and His Prophet. Monks and Bishops will be subject to no poll tax or indemnity whether they live in forests or on rivers, in the East or in the West, in the North or in the South. I give them my word of honour. They are on my promise and covenant and will enjoy perfect immunity from all sorts of inconveniences. Every help shall be given to them in the repair of their churches. They shall be absolved of wearing arms. They shall be protected by the Muslims. Let this document not be disobeyed till Judgement Day.” (Signed: Muhammad, the Messenger of God) (Quoted from Makâtîb-ur-Rasûl [Letters of the Messenger])

This important historical document affirms the Holy Prophet’s (saw) sincerity and leaves no room for doubting his disposition to peace.

Social Peace In the establishment of social peace also, the example of the Holy Prophet (saw) stands aloft as a beacon to illuminate the path to lasting harmony. His teachings provide conditions of peace for all those who heed his admonitions – neighbours and wayfarers, rich and poor, young and old, men and women.

Before the advent of the Holy Prophet (saw) , women in Arabia were deprived of their rights and distributed as inheritance. By recognising the social status of women and their rightful place in society as wives and mothers; by securing their rights in inheritance, in divorce, in the guardianship of children, in the management of the affairs of the family and in worship; the Holy Prophet (saw) established peace in the family on a firm basis.

The momentous address which the Holy Prophet (saw) delivered shortly before his demise, after the performance of what has come to be known the Farewell Pilgrimage, is an epitome of the entire spirit and teaching of Islam. In the course of this address, he had this to say:

“O men, what I say to you, you must hear and remember. All Muslims are as brethren to one another. All of you are equal. All men, whatever nation or tribe they may belong to, and whatever station in life they may hold are equal. Even as the fingers of the two hands are equal, so are human beings equal to one another. No one has any right, any superiority to claim over another. You are as brothers. O men, your God is One and your ancestor is one. An Arab possesses no superiority over a non-Arab, nor does a non-Arab over an Arab. A white man is in no way superior to a black nor for that matter is a black man better than a white, but only to the extent to which he discharges his duty to God and man. The most honoured among you in the sight of God is the most righteous among you… Even as this month is sacred, this land inviolate, and this day holy, so has God made the lives, property and honour of every man sacred. To take any man’s life or his property, or attack his honour, is as unjust and wrong as to violate the sacredness of this day, this month, and this territory. What I command you today is not meant only for today. It is meant for all time. You are expected to remember it and to act upon it until you leave this world and go to the next to meet your Maker… What I have said to you, you should communicate to the ends of the earth. Perchance those who have not heard me may benefit by it more than those who have heard.”

This sermon is an eternal Charter of Peace for all mankind. It shows how deep was the Holy Prophet’s concern for the welfare of man and the peace of the world.

Economic Peace “Peace depends on justice and economic progress depends on peace.” In one of his recent addresses, this is the most pertinent advice offered to the world by Hadhrat Amirul Mu’mineen, Khalifatul Masih V. Economic justice is a beautiful slogan common both to capitalism and socialism. Unfortunately, however, both have failed to do full justice to this golden principle as economic exploitation and unfair practices continue to widen the gap between the rich and the poor.

In the domain of economic peace, the teachings of the Holy Prophet (saw) are also an invaluable source of guidance for us. He took steps to remove vast disparities of wealth and poverty, necessary for the establishment of economic peace.

He enjoined the distribution of inheritance among all heirs – parents, children, widows, brother and sisters – so that no one has the power to bequeath the whole of his property to one person and thereby promote the accumulation of wealth.

He also recognised, in principle, the right of the poor in the wealth of the rich and through the institution of Zakat, he provided for the discharge of all those rights that the poor have in the wealth of the rich, and thus bring about reconciliation between the haves and the have-nots.

The concept of interest has played havoc with the economic peace of many households, institutions and even governments. In his historic address at the United Kingdom Houses of Parliament, Hadhrat Khalifatul Masih V made the following comment:

“A major issue today is the economic crisis of what has been termed the credit crunch. Strange as it may sound, the evidence points towards one fact. The Holy Qur’an guided us by saying avoid interest because interest is such a curse that it is a danger for domestic, national and international peace.” (22nd October 2008)

The prohibition of interest is central to the economic philosophy of Islam. Allah loves beneficence towards the poor and the needy and the equitable distribution of wealth among people. The system of interest strikes at the heart of these blessings.

A study conducted by leading scholars in which they sought alternatives to the interest-based global economy concluded that “by applying the Islamic approach, a lot of human misery could have been avoided.” ( A Short Review of the Historical Critique of Usury , Wayne A.M. Visser and Alastair McIntosh) This shows that the Holy Prophet (saw) had laid the foundations for economic peace.

National Peace Strained relationship between rulers and the ruled is another factor that can disturb peace. Islam prefers a democratic government but does not preclude any form of government. Failure of governments and political systems, however, can cause misery and disaffection and can ultimately lead to demonstrations, industrial strife, rebellion and disorder. The teachings of the Holy Prophet (saw) are indispensable for the establishment of national peace. He taught that authority vested in rulers is not their private property but a national trust that must be discharged with absolute justice and that government should be carried out in consultation with the people. On the other hand, he admonished the people to realise that the power to choose their rulers was a gift from God and therefore it should be carefully invested in those who fully deserve it. The Holy Qur’an says:

Verily, Allah commands you to make over the trusts to those entitled to them, and that, when you judge between men, you judge with justice. And surely excellent is that with which Allah admonishes you! Allah is All-Hearing, All-Seeing. (Ch.4:V.59)

After vesting authority in deserving rulers, the Holy Prophet (saw) taught that they must be accorded the fullest co-operation and obedience and not to rebel against them. The next verse goes on to say:

O ye who believe! obey Allah, and obey His Messenger and those who are in authority among you…

Obedience cuts at the root of all kinds of rebellion and anarchy and by laying absolute emphasis on this the Holy Prophet (saw) laid the foundation for national peace.

International Peace For the settlement of international disputes, the following verse of the Holy Qur’an is pertinent:

And if two parties of believers fight against each other , make peace between them; then if after that one of them transgresses against the other, fight the party that transgresses until it returns to the command of Allah. Then if it returns, make peace between them with equity, and act justly. Verily, Allah loves the just. (Ch.49:V.10)

This verse serves as an excellent model for the whole world and especially the United Nations. Islam forbids aggression but urges us to fight if failure to fight jeopardises peace and promotes war. This is the teaching on which peace can ultimately be built and this is the teaching on which the Holy Prophet (saw) based his practice.

Jihad It is an oft-repeated allegation that Islam was spread by the sword. Such allegations, born out of prejudice and envy, have formed the basis of later claims that Islam is a religion of war and terror. Fair-minded commentators have utterly rejected this false notion of Islam. De Lacy O’Leary, for example, writes:

“History makes it clear, however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most absurd myths that historians have ever repeated.” ( Islam at the Crossroads, p.8 )

About this the Promised Messiah (as) writes:

“Some, in their ignorance, blame Islam of Jihad to spread its message and of gaining converts at the point of sword. They claim that these converts were forced to change their religion under the threat of the sword. Woe to them a thousand times! They have exceeded all limits in their injustice and in their efforts to conceal the truth. O pity! What is wrong with them, that they wilfully turn away from realities? Our Holy Prophet (saw) did not appear in the land of Arabia in the capacity of a monarch. It, therefore, cannot be suspected that he had royal majesty and power with him, such that the people gathered under his banner for fear of their lives.” ( A Message of Peace , p.37)

The facts speak eloquently for themselves. For thirteen long years in Makkah after receiving the Call, the Holy Prophet (saw) suffered persecution and priva-tions that were bitter, cruel and sustained. His tiny group of followers also suffered savage cruelties. They bore all these with dignity and decorum, setting the highest example of steadfastness. Never did they offer violence against violence, preferring to migrate from their homeland 200 miles into Madinah instead. Even then they would not be left in peace. The enemy pursued them with the ostensible aim of wiping out Islam by use of force. It was then and only then that the Holy Prophet (saw) was compelled to take up the sword in defence of truth and freedom of conscience. Failure to fight would have meant the extermination of both free belief and the search for truth.

Yet even during conflict, the Holy Prophet (saw) carefully particularised a number of rules of war for his followers intended to ensure that no transgression occurred. They were forbidden from attacking women, children, the elderly and the infirm. They were not to strike terror into the general population and were always to keep in view the possibility of peace. Likewise, they were to be mindful of protecting public buildings, fruit trees, cattle and religious seminaries.

The struggle against the enemies of Islam which appeared utterly hopeless in the beginning was carried to a triumphant consum-mation when Makkah, without any bloodshed, opened its gates to the Holy Prophet (saw) and his companions on the day it was conquered. This conquest of Makkah, this glorious day in the history of Islam, this singular event in the history of mankind affirms more than anything else that our Beloved Prophet (saw) was the true Champion of Peace. Victory did not spoil him. Triumph did not detract from his excellent virtues. Power did not corrupt him. The world witnessed the spectacle of the most magnanimous and generous act of forgiveness of which history furnishes a record. The Holy Prophet (saw) readily granted amnesty to his erstwhile persecutors, the magnanimity of which softened the hardest of hearts. Bitter enemies of the morning became warm friends by midday. Even the most die-hard enemies of Islam could not resist the healing balm so generously and so effectively applied by the Holy Prophet (saw) .

Commenting on this conquest of Makkah, the Rev. Bosworth Smith writes:

“Now would have been the moment to gratify his ambition, to satiate his lust, to glut his revenge. Read the account of the entry of Muhammad into Mecca side by side with that of Marins or Sulla into Rome. Compare all the attendant circumstances, the outrages that preceded, and the use made by each of his recovered power and we shall then be in a better position to appreciate the magnanimity and moderation of the Prophet of Arabia. There were no proscription lists, no plunder, no wanton revenge. From a helpless orphan to the ruler of a big country was a great transition, yet the Prophet retained the nobility of his character under all circumstances.” ( Muhammad and Muhammadanism )

Peace between Man and God Let there remain no doubt that the Holy Prophet (saw) was indeed a Messenger of peace and reconciliation whose greatest achievement in this regard was the establishment of peace between man and God. He was born in an era which was the darkest period of the Dark Ages. Religion, morals and philosophy were all at a low ebb. The Arabs were divided into warring factions; he united them in love for each other and for their Creator. They were responding like beasts to their animal urges; he refined their cravings into aspirations for the sublime. They were idolatrous and lacking in any notion of Divine Unity; he established them as the most sincere worshippers of the One True God. Even then he would continually pray for the salvation of his spiritual progeny. Sinless though he was, he prayed for the forgiveness of our sins. To save us from the fire of Hell, he would stand so long in prayer that his feet would get swollen. He wept for our sake till his breast heaved like a boiling pot and his prayer mat became soaked in tears. He drew unto us the mercy of God; he toiled for His pleasure, again for our sake. He caused us to be wrapped up in the mantle of Allah’s grace and the garment of His compassion. In short, he paved the way for us to achieve everlasting peace, communion and union with our Maker.

Conclusion Nothing seems more ironical than that the Prophet who was born in Makkah, known as Balad-ul-Ameen , that is, the Abode of Peace; the Prophet who founded a religion the very name of which means peace; the Prophet who struck at the very root of religious acrimony by requiring his followers to believe in all Prophets of God; the Prophet whose teachings if fully acted upon would bring about an era of perpetual peace in all spheres of life; the Prophet who lit up the path to everlasting peace, communion and union with our God; should be branded the prophet of war whose religion was propagated at the point of the sword.

We will content ourselves, however, in the knowledge that every objective study of the life of our Beloved Prophet (saw) cannot but affirm his excellent virtues and peaceful disposition. The Christian author, Karen Armstrong, when suggesting how the West could understand Islam, writes:

“Perhaps one place to start is with the figure of Muhammad: a complex, passionate man who sometimes did things that are difficult for us to accept, but who had genius of a profound order and founded a religion and a cultural tradition that was not based on the sword – despite the Western myth – and whose name ‘Islam’ signifies ‘peace and reconciliation.’” ( Muhammad, A Western Attempt To Understand Islam , pp.265/266)

The great British playright and author, George Bernard Shaw, concluded:

“…far from being an anti-Christ, he must be called the Savior of Humanity. I believe that if a man like him were to assume the dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems in a way that would bring it much needed peace and happiness.” ( The Genuine Islam , Vol. 1, No. 8, 1936)

Responsibility of Ahmadis In the end, our responsibility as Ahmadi Muslims in this regard must be highlighted. We live in a world rent asunder by strife; where warfare and conflict are commonplace; where economies have faltered under the weight of inequality and political systems have ruptured by the force of their corruption; where the most basic of rights purported to be for the many are usurped by the few; where world leaders are finding themselves increasingly power-less in offering lasting solutions to global problems. For every level of human existence be it individual, communal, national or international, it is acutely obvious that our modern world is devoid of peace and harmony.

It is a sad indictment of the current state of affairs made only worse when we consider that over 1400 years ago in the barren deserts of Arabia, at a time when populations were sparse, when modes of communication were limited and methods of warfare basic, that Almighty Allah imbued the most humble of His Servants to have ever trod the earth with the most exquisite message of peace that humankind has ever been privy to and shaped that Messenger’s life in such a way that every last sinew of his being was dedicated to guiding mankind as to the true manner in which that message could be inculcated into our daily lives.

As followers of the Promised Messiah (as) who was commissioned by Allah to renew the relationship between man and God, to eliminate religious wars and to lay the foundations of peace, it is our responsibility in today’s world to explain all the beautiful teachings of peace and reconciliation illustrated in the life of the Holy Prophet (saw) . We, the members of this Community, must confront the dark forces of ignorance and prejudice sur-rounding the citadels of civilisations with the true teachings of the Holy Prophet (saw) so that humankind can benefit alike from his precept and from his example.

It is only fitting, therefore, that we leave the last word to Hadhrat Amirul Mu’mineen, Khalifatul Masih V, who once addressed the Community in the course of a Friday Sermon in the following terms:

“It is a duty of every Ahmadi today that he should take this message to the whole world that the true teaching of Islam is the one that has been given to us by the Promised Messiah (as) . You should take the message of love, peace and brotherhood and declare to the whole world that Islam was not spread by the sword but by the excellence of its teachings… It is the crying need of the time to convince the world that Islam spread during the time of the Holy Prophet (saw) because of his prayers and supplications and in this age, God willing, this will happen only by presenting the true teachings of Islam as expounded by the Promised Messiah (as) , the true devotee and servant of the Holy Prophet of Islam (saw) .”

May Allah so ordain that we are able to respond to this call of Hadhrat Amirul Mu’mineen and thereby become instrumental in establishing the peace in the world which our Beloved Prophet (saw) pined for so much, Amin .

36.  Causing Harm   

Causing harm to yourself and others is forbidden in Islam. Usul al-Kafi, vol.5, p.292.

There are two blessings to which no one gives thanks: security and health.  Khisal, p.34.

The Third Reason Behind Islam's Quick Spread Round the World

Islam's history from the time of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) until now has witnessed many challenges that were overcome through the flexible and rational set of rules offered by Allah. The way Islam deals with the requirements of each era and how its principles and rules can be applied to new cases are among the reasons for the quick spread of Islam during ages, which are addressed in this part of the topic. 

Time and evolution in Islam's History

Islam is basically sensitive to the evolutions and the requirements of each epoch. This is not the case for many religions and sects, especially those founded by humans. Imam Ali (AS) has advised: “not to impose the customs and traditions of your time on your children because they belong to a different era from yours” [1].

Unlike other creatures of the world such as animals, plants and inanimate objects, humans have memory, tradition, and history; animals might have memory, but not tradition nor history. This makes it possible for humans to compare different periods of their life and form the concept of progression and retrogression; which is not the case for animals and plants.

And, that is the reason why the specifications and the requirements of each time become meaningful; e.g., old vs. new, classic vs. modern, etc. This makes one pause once in a while to ask him\herself: am I going forward or actually taking a step back? And undoubtedly, getting advanced would be the most pleasant reflection that one can have. But, how can one be on an ever progressive path?

Life framework Should be Based on Wisdom

For self-development, one needs a set of values, disciplines, and rules with the help of which he\she can define a structure for his\her life that will consequently guarantee his/her success and advancement over time. This also applies to social development.

On the other hand, every human being is not able, nor has time, to contemplate every detail and strategy about life and to establish his\her framework. Hence, one usually relies on the teachings and instructions of a specific sect, religion or ideology. But, how is it possible? How can one select the best framework and then adjust it according to the specifications of each era such that it can apply to every period? That is possible with the help of wisdom. 

More Rational, Closer to human Wisdom and More Acceptable

Among various ideologies and religions known in the course of time, those who are more rational can be adapted better to the requirements of each period and are consequently more understandable and acceptable by humans. Such a religion or ideology provides the principles and rulings which can be perceived by the human’s wisdom and from which humans can conclude and extract the guidelines and codes that are exclusive to each era.  

Islam, a wisdom-based religion

Among different religions, Islam is really the only one that is rational and is based on wisdom; So are the divine guidelines. Every good act and deed ordered to is rationally and truely useful in nature, not because it is a divine order. And something known devilish in Islam is intrinsically wrong; it is not wrong because God has told us so. In other words, it is not Islam who renders something good or bad, it rather provides the rational tools to identify what is wrong and what is right. That is the reason why Islam is more compatible with the specifications of each time, i.e., it provides the axioms and frameworks and leaves the rest to the human’s wisdom. This takes place through a process called Ijtihad.

Ijtihad and Rational Solutions to the New Cases

Using Ijtihad, Islamic jurists (Faqih) derive the guidelines and regulations from the principles of the Quran, the narrations, and traditions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HP) and the Infallible Imams (AS). In this regard, Imam Sadiq (AS) said that the Infallible Imams had introduced the Islamic axioms and it is a duty over Muslims to deduce the details and rules [2].

This is the Islamic jurisprudence which is a unique characteristic that enables Islam to propose rational solutions, to respond to new issues and questions at each time. It also facilitates for human beings the application of the Islamic axioms to their activities and dealings. Otherwise, religion or ideology that is limited to the text, and has no solution to become updated in the course of time, will be a temporary time-dependent one that cannot survive through the time evolution. 

According to what has been mentioned above, Islam as a whole guide and roadmap is able to consider new situations, and issues raised at different periods and propose relevant solutions for them. Islam's history has shown it as a dynamic religion whose guidelines are not limited to the cases in a thousand years ago but meets the requirements of all time. Of course, it should be noted that being ever up to date does not mean to welcome every new change and circumstance; it rather means to derive the relevant Islamic orientation and ruling by considering the Islamic axioms.

Mankind is kept in a constant state of trying to understand and achieve happiness.  Friends, love, family, success, recognition, material escapes, and sensual pleasures are among the avenues that humanity has explored in its quest to attain this elusive phenomenon.  But what exactly is happiness, and how can we even, achieve it, if at all?  

The ancient Greek philosopher Aristotle coined the term 'eudaimonia' to define 'happiness'. According to Aristotle, eudaimonia involves not only reason but also the practical application of reason to achieve excellence or 'arete'. He famously stated, “We are what we repeatedly do; excellence, then, is not an act but a habit.”

In the 97th verse of Surah An-Nahl (The Bee), Allah tells us:

مَنْ عَمِلَ صَالِحًا مِّن ذَكَرٍ أَوْ أُنثَىٰ وَهُوَ مُؤْمِنٌ فَلَنُحْيِيَنَّهُ حَيَاةً طَيِّبَةً ۖ وَلَنَجْزِيَنَّهُمْ أَجْرَهُم بِأَحْسَنِ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُونَ

To whoever, male or female, does good deeds and has faith, We shall give a good life and reward them according to the best of their actions. (16: 97)

So, it appears straightforward: all we have to do is to believe, do good, and Allah will reward with a fulfilling based on our deeds. However, a dilemma arises: why does it feel that this concept seem to elude us, even when we believe we are doing right? Why do many experience persistent unhappiness?

This quandary is due to our adversary, Satan, also known as Shaitan. He perpetually attempts to misguide us and disrupt our equilibrium -the righteous path that messengers were sent to guide us along.

In Surah An-Nisa, verse 120, Allah exposes Shaitan’s tactics: 

يَعِدُهُمْ وَيُمَنِّيهِمْ وَمَا يَعِدُهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ إِلَّا غُرُورًا؛ Satan only makes them ˹false˺ promises and deludes them with ˹empty˺ hopes. Truly Satan promises them nothing but delusion. (4:120)

Thus, as soon as we attain a sense of contentment through achievements- be it material gains, intellectual accomplishments, or life or overcoming hardships- Shaitan sets to work, aiming to deceive us, disrupt our equilibrium, and draw us away from our state of balance and inner goodness (fitra) through deceit and temptations. Instead of turning back to Allah (the straightway) and expressing gratitude, recognizing that He has granted us the opportunity (tawfiq) to do good and enjoy His blessings, which would lead to happiness, this gratitude transforms into greed, ego, pride, and any other negative trait associated with accomplishment. These are the false deities, the “ungods,” warned about by Allah, to which we might turn to in moments of vulnerability and deception.

But when He granted their descendants good offspring, they associated false gods in what He has given them. Exalted is Allah above what they associate ˹with Him˺! (7:190)

Consequently, humankind remains perpetually ensnared in a dichotomy between what their fitra (inner voice), guiding them in feelings, thoughts, and actions, and the voices incited by the enemy of truth and goodness. This results in being misaligned, unbalanced, and distancing oneself from the sole true source of goodness- Allah . How then can we resolve this dichotomy, fated to be face with Shaitan’s ever-present attempt to divert us from our equilibrium, the straight path?

We redirect to pleasing Allah whenever these deceptions infiltrate our minds. What actions, though, pleases Allah?

"Indeed Allah loves those who are constantly repentant and loves those who purify themselves" The Quran 2:222

Purification takes on many forms, paralleling the various strategies of Shaitain's deceptions: seeking refuge from accursed Shaitan, affirming and witnessing the sole existence of the One True God (Allah), avoiding actions that would taint our body, mind, and heart by maintaining a state of ritual and spiritual purity (wudhu), acknowledging our mistakes, rectifying them, and continuing with righteous deeds. Allah assures that good deeds erase misdeeds and replace them with goodness.

The convergence of Islam and Aristotle’s teachings on happiness becomes evident-they both emphasize that it’s not the mere act itself that is excellent or brings happiness, but the habit and the continual process of being aware of ones thoughts, acknowledging imperfections, redirecting one’s thoughts towards Allah, abstaining from evil, and returning to the straight path.

Allah further instructs, 

“O believers! Seek comfort in patience and prayer. Allah is truly with those who are patient.” (2:153)

This implies recognizing our inherent imperfection and inevitable deviations, but with Allah's assistance, patience, and prayer, we can always find our way back. Allah, in His compassion, has endowed us with tools to structure our lives in a way that fosters excellence through habitual practices.

These practices stand as the pillars of Islam- the five daily prayers, at a minimum, cleanse our hearts from the corrosive influences of Shaitan's schemes; charity helps us express gratitude for our acquired material wealth; jihad maintains vigilance and pushes us Allah; fasting combines physical discipline with the purification of actions, mind, and heart; and Hajj serves as a reminder (if the means are available) that our final goal is Allah.

However, even if we flawlessly perform our rituals, they can become lifeless motions. Thus, the Holy Quran, the teachings of the Holy prophet (pbuhh), and the guidance of his Holy Household (as) function as nourishment for our minds and hearts, replenishing them when our equilibrium of happiness is disturbed.  

Reciting the Quran nurtures our hearts, aligning them with truth. As Imam Zaynul Abideen (as) noted, “Hearing is the gateway through which various concepts reach the heart.” (A divine perspective of rights, Imam Zaynul Abideen (as) Page 90). Reading the Quran replenishes our minds with reminders of Allah’s oneness, the importance of following the Prophet (pbuhh), reflecting on mortality, and staying true to the righteous path. It also presents instances of the consequences faced by those who succumbed to Shaitan’s temptations, alongside examples of those who prevailed- Prophets (as) and virtuous individuals like Lady Maryam, the mother of Prophet Isa (as), Asiya, the wife of Firoun and Yusuf (as). Despite confronting numerous external obstacles, Yusuf (as) exemplified patience and chastity, ultimately emerging as a true victor.

The Holy Prophet (pbuhh) teaches us morality through the laws of all actions in our lives, ensuring our hearts remain untainted while interacting with society, facilitating a state of utmost happiness. The Ahle Bayt (as) carry on this ethical legacy, guiding us to navigate society’s challenges while keeping our hearts pure, until the reappearance of the living Imam (atfs), when he will elevate the entire world to a heightened state.

In conclusion, aligning with the moderate and true path, persistently striving to achieve Allah's pleasure with all our faculties, allows us to rediscover happiness, even in the face of Shaitan's snares.

The right of “Freedom of Speech” has been much been highlighted in the media recently. So, I too have brought ink to paper to exercise this right given to me not by today’s democratic nations, but by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.), 1400 years ago. Yet it is important to remember that freedom of speech, tolerance and respect go hand in hand. As it is a general consensus that mocking, degrading or insulting others, and then excusing it in the name of freedom of speech devalues a civilised society.

Without a doubt, democracy, racial equality, social justice, human rights are all Islamic concepts. However, the western world sees Islam as the opposite. This could easily be corrected by the media highlighting eminent scholars like Shaykh ul Islam Professor Tahir ul Qadri. But, whenever there is an Islamic question to be answered, we find on our screens representatives of extremist groups further complicating matters. Consequently fuelling the aversion to Islam, thus creating Islamaphobia.

The reality of Islam is that it promotes justice and preserves human rights. The Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) was the greatest humanitarian that ever walked on earth. In fact “he must be called the saviour of humanity…” George Bernard Shaw insists that “if a man like Muhammad were to assume dictatorship of the modern world, he would succeed in solving its problems that would bring it the much needed peace and happiness.”[1] In support of this, a great historian, Lamartine argues that “as regards all standards by which human greatness may be measured, we may well ask, is there any man greater than he?”[2] For he does lead the list of the world’s most influential persons.[3]

Thus, we learn that Muslims and non-Muslims alike have found the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) life a continuous source of inspiration. No one’s life has been scrutinised as much as the Holy Prophet’s (S.A.W.) life. Nevertheless, there is not one detail which could prove a flaw in his character. Even the non Muslims of Mecca knew him as “the Truthful” (Al Sadiq) and “the Faithful” (Al Amin).

In fact, each aspect of the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) life exemplifies his perfection and is invaluable for those who seek a model of guidance because it is specifically designed by Allah (S.W.T.) for this purpose. All of the Holy Prophet’s (S.A.W.) attributes, virtues and qualities have been showered on him as gifts from The Creator. Allah (S.W.T.) has carved the physical features, the style of living and the conduct of His Messenger (S.A.W.) in such a perfect manner that each one of his qualities serves as an argument for the glory and grandeur of The Creator.

Although some examples from The Holy Prophet’s (S.A.W.) life will be mentioned it is essential that his life be studied properly because it is the focus of faith. Recognition of Messengership is recognition of the divine presence. According to his wife Umm-ul Mu’mineen Hadhrat `A’ishah (R.A), “He was a personification of the Qur’an.” Since the Prophet (S.A.W.) is the embodiment of all the virtues that have been enunciated by the Holy Qur’an, a true understanding of the attributes of the Prophet (S.A.W.) is in fact a true understanding of Allah’s attributes.

Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, and other authentic compilations of the Holy Prophet’s (S.A.W.) traditions or Hadith are brimming with examples to support my argument. So much so that it makes it difficult to pick and quote a few in order to keep this article concise!

His Lord, Allah (S.W.T.), said of him in the Holy Qur’an: “And truly you are immense in character”[4]; and he said of himself; “I have been sent only to perfect nobility of character.”

The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.) was extremely generous and sociable himself. He encouraged others to be likewise. A man asked the Prophet (S.A.W.), “Which act in Islam is the best?” He replied, “To feed (the poor and needy) and greet those who you know and those who you do not.”[5] Similarly, he forbid jealousy and mutual estrangement. Anas bin Malik (R.A.) narrates that the Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “Do not hate one another, and do not be jealous of one another; and do not desert (cut your relation with) each other, and O Allah’s worshippers! Be brothers. Lo! It is not permissible for any Muslim to desert (not talk to) his brother (Muslim) for more than three days.”[6]

Adding to his pearls of wisdom the Prophet (S.A.W.) warned us to be cautious from being angry. It is narrated by Abu Hurairah (R.A.) that Allah’s Messenger (S.A.W.) said, “The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one who controls himself while in anger.”[7]

Furthermore, the Prophet (S.A.W.) once said, “A true believer is one with whom others feel secure. One who returns love for hatred.” The Prophet made it clear that one who would only return love for love was on a lower ethical plane. We should never think that we should treat people well only if they treat us well. We should, rather, be accustomed to being good to those who are not good to us and to not wronging those who harm us.

According to a tradition recorded in the Sahih of Imam Muslim, when the Prophet’s opponents greatly increased their persecution, his Companions asked him to curse them. At this the Prophet (S.A.W.) replied, “I have not been sent to lay a curse upon men but to be a blessing to them.” His opponents continued to treat him and his Companions unjustly and cruelly, but he always prayed for them. The Prophet (S.A.W.) molded his own life without giving trouble to anybody. To understand this fully we must look to the Qur’an. Allah states “And we have sent you (O Muhammad S.A.W.) not but as a mercy for the alamin (all that exists).” [8] This refers to Muslims, non Muslims, animals plants etc. are all encompassed by the Prophet‘s mercy. It is no surprise then that the date palm tree which the Prophet (S.A.W.) used to lean on cried upon separation from him when the pulpit was built.[9]

The Messenger of Allah (S.A.W.) lived his life without giving trouble to anyone. Hence one of the lessons he taught was that we should live among others like flowers, and not like thorns. The Jews and the Muslims lived side by side in peace in Madinah. The Prophet (S.A.W.) allowed them to practice their religion freely. In addition to this he warned his followers that if anyone murdered or mistreated a non Muslim in any other way he would not even be able to smell the aroma of Paradise, and the Prophet himself, on Judgement Day would speak in the non Muslim’s defence.[10] He always desired peace with the Christians, Jews and idolaters, and only unsheathed his sword when he was forced to do so to defend Islam and to repel aggression.

The Prophet (S.A.W.) was born to establish peace and unity in the world. Without a doubt “the extinction of race consciousness as between Muslims is one of the outstanding achievements of Islam.”[11] In his Last Sermon, The Holy Prophet (S.A.W.), removed all forms of inequalities creating a bond of universal brotherhood. He said, “There is no superiority for an Arab over a non – Arab, and for a non – Arab over an Arab, or for white over the black, or for the black over the white, except in piety. Verily the noblest among you is he who is the most pious.”

In his good manners, gentleness and forbearance he has left a perpetual and living example of a perfect behaviour for the entire human race. With his perfect emotional balance, he did not shun the legitimate pleasures of this world. He was wonderful. A perfect man. Consequently, he was loved more deeply and reverentially than any other, by those that were with him and by all subsequent generations of Muslims.

It is narrated by Abdullah bin Hisham (R.A.): “We were with the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and he was holding the hand of Umar bin al Khattab. Umar said to him “O Allah’s Messenger! You are dearer to me than everything except my ownself.” The Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “No, by Him in whose hand my soul is you will not have complete faith till I am dearer to you than your own self.” Then Umar said to him, “However, now by Allah you are dearer to me than my ownself.” The Prophet (S.A.W.) said, “Now, o Umar (now you are a believer)”.[12]

Whenever we study the various historical personalities of history, we find them to be distinguished in a specific field. However the Prophet’s (S.A.W.) achievements are not limited to one aspect of life, but cover the whole field of human conditions. His personality possesses military, political, administrative, moral, human, social and cultural aspects. Every part of his life is well balanced and on the whole is the model of perfection.

Yet there are still many who have wrong perceptions of the Prophet. The Qur’an was the main miracle which was given to the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) to prove that he was a true Prophet. Anyone who reads it with an open mind will become a Muslim if they are sincere in their search for truth.

Furthermore, to believe that he propagated Islam by sword is a clear mistake. It was not through the sword that Islam won a place in the hearts of millions. It was instead, the exalted personality of the Prophet (S.A.W.) that inspired converts. Any political system or ideology that is spread through the act of force is soon toppled as we have seen with the downfall of communism. Known as the greatest peacemaker the Prophet (S.A.W.) undoubtedly followed Allah’s Qur’anic injunction that there should be no compulsion in religion (2:256).

Compared with other religions, Islam is pure, liberal and rational. It appeals to every age. Unlike the previous Prophets sent by Allah (S.W.T) sent to guide mankind, the Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) message is not restricted to a certain place, people or time. Allah states “And we have sent you (O Muhammad S.A.W.) not but as a mercy for the alamin (all that exists).” [13] Aalamin infers everything create from the beginning of time till the end.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) Prophethood is all encompassing. That is why even today it is the fastest growing religion according to the western media. Even on the day of judgement he will rule through the power of intercession granted to him by Allah. All the needy will beseech and implore him and he will act as the intercessor for all nations and communities.[14]

In order to be beneficiaries of these rahmats (blessings) we need to love him and follow the Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.)’s example in all aspects of life. Once again it is emphasized that to appreciate the Prophet Muhammad’s (S.A.W.) perfection it is essential to study his life.

May Allah bless the Holy Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) and his family and his companions and all who follow them with sincerity until the last day (Ameen).

There are many personalities in the world, which inspire different people. The most respectful and sacred personality is Prophet Muhammad SAW. He SAW was born in the valley of Makkah. He SAW was born on 26 April 571 AD. According to Muslims’ calendar date, it was 12th Rabi-ul-Awal. He SAW preached the religion Islam. All the messengers came with this religion. All messengers taught the people the knowledge of Islam. Muhammad SAW taught Islam in effective and efficient manner.

Muhammad SAW led a simple life, which is the best example for all the people of world. He SAW wore the clean clothes. These clothes were usually not in a good condition, which depicted the simplicity of our beloved Prophet SAW. He SAW was the leader of the Muslims and had all the power but He SAW did not avail any benefit from these powers. Prophet Muhammad SAW possessed tolerance. At the time of conquest of Makkah. He SAW  forgave all his enemies. He SAW built up the Islamic Government in Median. Prophet Muhammad SAW possessed good manners and affection for all. He SAW emphasized on independence of slaves. In His Last Hajj, He SAW addressed the Muslims that no white was superior to black, but could be, depending on deeds.

The Holy Prophet SAW used to worship Almighty Allah in the cave of Hira. He SAW received first revelation of the Holy Quran in the cave of Hira. That was about the importance of Knowledge, which is given below:

“Recite in the name of your Lord Who created, Created man from a clinging substance.”

The Holy Prophet SAW used to say. “He who goes forth in search of knowledge is in the way of Allah till he returns.” He SAW also said. “The seeking of knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim.”

By getting education, Muslim scientists made great progress in Chemistry, Medicine, Science and Philosophy. They were the pioneers of education. In the history, the reign of Muslims were recognized not by war but because of revolution in every field of life. Before the arrival of Prophet Muhammad SAW, Arabs were cruel and uncivilized people. But after His preaching of Islam, they became civilized nation and role model for other Muslims. He SAW was very kind humble and loving. He SAW prayed for the people of Taif, who threw stones at Him SAW. He SAW helped the old lady in her illness who threw garbage over Him SAW.

“And thou (The Holy Prophet SAW) dost, surely, possess sublime moral excellence.” (The Holy Quran)

Islam is not a religion of war and fight rather it is a religion of love, truth, affection and all good morals of life. It abstain us from sins and bad habits and lead us to good deeds and happy life. Islam saves our life in both of the worlds. We should follow the golden principles of Islam and Hadith of Holy Prophet SAW only, then we shall succeed.

Syed Mir Hassan taught him Arabic, Persian and Islamic studies. He did his M.A. in Philosophy from the Government College, Lahore. He went abroad for higher education. He had the degree of Bar-at-Law. He went to Germany and got a degree of Ph.D. He came back to his country.

He wrote many poems to awake the Muslims. The Muslims were poor, uneducated and lived in very unhappy conditions. Being the national poet and a thinker, he taught the Muslims a sense of self-respect, In 1930 at Allahbad, he gave the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of India.

He passed away on the 21st of April, 1938. He was buried outside the Badshahi Masjid in Lahore. Bang-e-Dara, Baal-e-Jibraeel, Zarb-e-Kaleem and Javed Nama are his famous books.

Birth of allama iqbal:.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot. He belonged to an ancient family of Kashmiri Pandits. His forefathers converted to Islam two hundred and fifty years ago and emigrated from Kashmir and settled in Sialkot. Allama Muhammad Iqbal was fortunate in that he got the opportunity to be blessed with the training of good and virtuous parents. His father Sheikh Noor Muhammad was a Sufi man. His mother Mohtarma Imam Bibi was a wise woman.

Early education:

Allama Muhammad Iqbal’s early education, like that of ordinary Muslim children, took place in the school according to the custom of the time. Then he entered Mission School Sialkot. He was intelligent from childhood. He passed the fifth class examination with a scholarship and also got a scholarship in the last grade of middle school. He also achieved a prominent position in the inter-class which was the basis for admission in the college.

Discipleship of Maulana Mir Hassan:

When he entered the Scotch Mission College, Sialkot. He had the opportunity to make regular use of Maulana Syed Mir Hassan, a very capable teacher of Arabic and Persian. Allama Muhammad Iqbal studied up to FA in Sialkot. After that, he was sent to Lahore to get higher education. Scotch Mission College was not called Murray College at the time.

Education in Lahore:

Allama Iqbal came to Lahore in 1895 and entered Government College Lahore. His subjects here were English philosophy and Arabic. In 1997 he passed the BA exam and came first in the Arabic subject and won two gold medals. At that time Professor Thomas Arnold was a famous teacher of philosophy.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal had his own tendency towards philosophy and he got the opportunity to be a student of a famous philosopher like Arnold. Allama Muhammad Iqbal took admission in MA Philosophy in 1997. After passing his MA, he started lecturing on history, philosophy and politics at Oriental College, Lahore.

Higher education:

Allama Muhammad Iqbal traveled to England in 1905 for higher studies in philosophy and law. He passed the barrister’s examination from the University of Cambridge and later obtained the degree of Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Munich, Germany.

He also served as a Professor of Arabic at the University of London for six months, as deputy of Professor Arnold. After that, he returned home with many academic honors and degrees. He mastered Arabic, Persian, Sanskrit and many European languages.

Return to Home from Abroad:

After completing his higher education, he decided to return home and arrived in Lahore in 1908 where he received a warm welcome. He started practicing law in Lahore and also taught philosophy for 18 months at Government College, Lahore. Because Mr. James, the college’s professor of philosophy, had died and no English teacher could be immediately appointed in his place.

Poetry of Allama Iqbal:

Before moving to Europe, his poetry was limited. He used to write poems about the nation and homeland. Most of his poetry was in Urdu. After returning from Europe, his poetry changed and he started reciting poetry mostly in Persian. His Urdu poetry became famous even before 1901. He wrote a philosophical Masnavi Israr Khudi which was published in 1915. This Masnavi became more popular in England than in India.

Professor Nicholson published an English translation of the Masnavi. In this way, the Western world became acquainted with the ideas of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Renowned critic Professor Dixon commented on the Masnavi in ​​detail and praised it. This had a great effect on the British government and in January 1923,  Allama Muhammad Iqbal was honored as “Sir”.

Ethics and Dress:

Although he was educated in English, led a pious and simple life. He spent most of his time studying. Eaten only once in 24 hours. Even during the health issues, his style was such that there was no difference in daily routine. He met his visitors with the same smile and warmth as he had in health.

He wore a kurta and shalwar in the early days. He wore a white turban or a loincloth. However, when he went to Europe, he had to wear English clothes. When he returned, he usually wore a Turkish hat with a shalwar kameez and a coat. Sometimes he wore a coat and trousers. By the way, he did not like English clothes.

Patriotism:

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was against the political disintegration of patriotism. Patriotism was ingrained in him. He was very attached to his homeland and this is a natural passion. His homeland was Kashmir. He expressed his love for Kashmir in various ways. He was also the secretary of several Kashmiri associations

The love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him):

Allama Muhammad Iqbal was a figure of non-Islamic. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) could not tolerate the slightest disrespect to Islam and the greats of Islam. The love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was embedded in their veins and fibers. Had Allama Sarwar Kainat (peace be upon him) been mentioned, Allama Iqbal’s tears would have flowed. In his words, devotion to the person of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) is expressed.

My Hero in History Essay

A hero is a person volunteering one’s time to help those in need, whether for a person, an organization, or a community. Taking acts with no expectation of remuneration or external advantage. Acceptance and recognition of the probable danger or sacrifice. A hero is someone who gives of himself, often at considerable danger to his own life, for the greater welfare of others.

There have been several historical personalities who stood head and shoulders above their contemporaries. They have changed the direction of a nation, rewritten history, and many have even influenced our current way of life in innovative ways. There have been many outstanding Muslim leaders throughout history, but Imam Ali stands out as the shining star in his constellation.

Place of Birth

Ali Ibn Abi Talib (RA) was the Islamic prophet Muhammad’s cousin, son-in-law, and friend who ruled as the fourth caliph from 656 until his assassination in 661. He is a pivotal person in Shia Islam, and Shia Muslims see him as the legitimate direct successor to Muhammad as an Imam. Ali was born to Abu Talib and Fatimah bint Asad within the Kaaba in Mecca, Islam’s holiest site. Under Muhammad’s supervision, he was the first male to join Islam. Ali defended Muhammad from a young age and participated in practically every conflict fought by the embryonic Muslim community.

He was quite generous. Despite eventually becoming the leader of Muslims, Muhammad never desired to accumulate goods and lived a humble life. He was always modest and grateful to the Almighty for all the benefits He bestowed upon him. He consistently assisted the underprivileged by donating his fortune to charity. Not only was he a Sahabi, but he also looked to be a brilliant visionary scholar. ‘He lived his life according to Islamic principles and helped humankind.’ He will never give up his support for Islam’s fundamental institutions. Being fair is another feature of his that makes him a role model for all of us, such as how he treated Muslims and non-Muslims equally. He promoted peace, love, and the advancement of humankind. His service to Islam was exceptional, and he was Islam’s greatest gift.

Achievements

Hazrat Ali (RA) was a brilliant caliph and a wonderful friend of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He has several accomplishments and heroic actions to his credit. Some are explained in the following paragraphs: –

  • Hazrat Ali (RA) was completely aware of all of Holy Prophet Muhammad’s courageous actions (SAW). When the Holy Prophet declared himself to be a prophet, Hazrat Ali (RA) attested to His claim and accepted Islam. He was the first Muslim kid in Islamic history.
  • The fourth caliph (RA) fought multiple wars against Islam’s foes. He fought all of these fights valiantly. In Jang-e-Badar, the caliph assassinated Waleed Bin Utah (battle of Badar). He also assassinated the well-known Jewish wrestler “Umaro Bin Abdud” at Jang-e-Khandaq (Trench Battle).
  • Hazrat Ali (RA) remained a distinguished member of Islam’s previous caliphs’ advisory committee. In all areas, his counsel was taken seriously.
  • During his reign, the fourth caliph (RA) observed the laws and restrictions established by the second caliph, Hazrat Umar (RA). He despised notoriety and used to disregard celebrity’s efforts. With his distinct approach, the fourth caliph promoted democracy. He always regarded the government treasury as public property and used it wisely for the general good. Nobody ever showed favoritism to the fourth caliph.

Police Department Reforms

The fourth caliph expanded his army and built various cantonments for it. He also boosted the number of police officers and implemented several changes in the police force. These cops were known as Ashurta, and their commander was known as Sahib-e-Ashurta. The Ashurtas were tasked with preserving law and order, investigating and controlling crimes, and ensuring the security of trade hubs.

Hazrat Ali’s bravery (RA)

Hazrat Ali (RA) enjoys the distinction of taking part in all Ghazwat ceremonies (battles). Ghazwat denotes “the war in which the Holy Prophet (SAW) personally participated.” Some of his daring deeds are described in the following paragraphs: –

  • Battle of Badar

During every adversity, Hazrat Ali (RA) stood shoulder to shoulder with Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW). He took part in several Ghazwat (battles) and shown his bravery and commitment to the Holy Prophet (SAW). The Holy Prophet (SAW) chose three brave companions from the Bani Hashim clan for the Fight of Badar (the first battle of Islam). Hazrat Ali (RA) was chosen for the battle of Badar with Hazrat Hamza (RA) and Hazrat Obaida (RA). In this battle, he slew Islam’s most infamous foe, Waleed, in an instant.

  • Battle of Ohad

The Muslims seemed to have vanquished Ohad in the first phase of the fight. During this fight, the Holy Prophet (SAW) was injured. During the struggle, Hazrat Ali (RA) cared after Him. He administered first assistance to the Holy Prophet (SAW).

  • Battle of Khyber

Nonbelievers have traditionally occupied the Khyber fort. Before the battle of Khyber, the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) assured the companions that He would pass up the fort’s flag to a valiant companion the next day. The following day, Hazrat Ali (RA) fought valiantly and overcame the Khyber fort. After the victorious fight, he seized the flag of Khyber fort from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

Change of capital

The capital of Islamic nations was relocated from Madina to Kofa by Hazrat Ali (RA). This decision was made to facilitate the execution of administrative directives. However, some disloyal persons caused issues for his government there. As a result, the difference amongst Muslims began from there. Muslims were separated into several factions. These issues were properly solved by Hazrat Ali (RA).

All of Hazrat Ali’s traits motivate me, including honesty, patience, assisting everyone, being giving and kind to others, and being grateful to Allah for everything He has blessed us with. I will undoubtedly incorporate all of these characteristics into my everyday life in order to live a virtuous life like the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) and Hazrat Ali (A.S).
