I am keen to pursue MSc (PGCertPGDip) Logistics and Supply Chain Management progamme at the University of Brighton because the professional world today is highly competitive and the importance of supply chain management and logistics in globalization, and digitization has multiplied. As I aim to improve and strengthen my knowledge of this Logistics and Supply Chain Management. These are the aspects that have caught my attention and stimulated my imagination with the necessary innovations and strategic performances in business. I believe that it will be the right choice for my plans and objectives.

By researching the website of the University of Brighton I have seen the modules, syllabus, and learning outcomes of the Logistics and Supply Chain Management MSc (PGCertPGDip) progamme. This course is designed for graduates in any subject with or without work experience. The programme helps prepare me for a career in the alternative supply chain of case studies, company inspections, and paid work experience. This course includes face-to-face learning tutorials, workshops, laboratory classes, and studio sessions. This course is organized in 3 terms. In the first term of this course international logistics and financial and managerial accounting conduct operations in the supply, production, distribution of equipment, and strategy methods. The second term of this course provides knowledge development of business and management research methods, enterprise systems, chain management, various workshops, and strategic approaches. The third term of this course will help explore purchasing policies and practices in a broader global context. Since I have had the opportunity to study this course, I look forward to improving my skills and knowledge by taking this Logistics and Supply Chain Management course at Brighton University. If I can successfully complete this course it will create a platform for me to explore different career opportunities such as logistics analyst, purchasing manager, supply chain manager, and logistics manager. I believe this course will be the right choice for my career plans and objectives.

I completed my secondary and intermediate from the business studies group respectively. After that, I studied Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and Information System at Daffodil International University. In my bachelor's degree, I was involved in various co-curricular activities to enrich my knowledge. Now I have come to realize that, I need to explore more about the business world to progress in my career level and for this reason, I decide to pursue my higher studies in the UK. As I want to explore my career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management sector, this course will give me an upper hand to understand any business contexts and situations. I think I should gain more knowledge in the field of logistics and Supply Chain Management so I decided to continue my further studies with this course. This course provides academic knowledge and skills to pursue career opportunities worldwide and will help me develop a broader understanding of specific areas. As of the moment, I am interested in learning all the related skills and knowledge from this course. So, I believe that this course will make me fit for my successful career and help in my employment.

It was difficult to pick a specialization from the various options available to me, but I finally decided to build a career in the Logistics and Supply Chain Management section. Studying this course provides a variety of opportunities that enable me to adopt a creative and constructively critical approach to practice, supported by appropriate reading and research. This course module includes International Logistics and Finance, Supply Chain Analytics, and Operations Management for Logistics, Enterprise Systems and E-procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Research Methods for Masters Degrees, and Strategic Purchasing. For professionals, I believe this course will be the right choice for those looking for a successful career.

There are several reasons why I should have completed my higher degree in the UK. There is a long history of welcoming international students to study at UK universities and I like UK culture because they teach to be realistic. It is true that the UK is a well-known and well-liked destination for students looking to study abroad. Because of the UK's longstanding reputation for high-quality higher education, I have decided to pursue my higher education there. However, the study environment in my country follows the theoretical system of education which is quite different and no soft skills are acquired. The UK maintains a quality management system with high standards in all fields. Affordable tuition fees have attracted me the most. In addition, an academic degree from the United Kingdom is recognized and acclaimed by employers around the world. The transferable skills from the UK are key to advancing graduates through organizational growth and gaining a competitive advantage. This is again a reason to study in the UK. A recent survey of International Graduation Results in 2019 produced by iGraduate by Universities UK International shows that 82% of international graduates say their UK degree is valuable for financial investment and a similar number of graduates say they are satisfied or delighted with their careers. About 83% think a UK degree has helped them get a job. These aspects have driven my ambition to get a degree from a UK institution. I believe it will be helpful for my professional career.

I like the University of Brighton because it incredibly welcomes international students and I am attracted to this course because it offers a different perspective in an area where I want to study. With over 18,985students, the university offers outstanding higher education for people from all backgrounds and over 150 countries, with a significant mature student body and a growing international graduate community. The university is ranked 601st in the QS World University Rankings by Top Universities and has an overall score of 4 stars, according to student reviews in the study portals. According to DLHE 2018-2019, 89% of graduates are working and/or further studying within three months of graduation. In addition, the university has a well-equipped campus. By researching a lot, I have come to know that, the University of Brighton provide tuition to their students that goes way beyond the classroom. It enables me to take pride in helping businesses take me to new horizons by applying the knowledge and skills I can gain through Logistics and Supply Chain Management. So, I believe this course is right for my future career so I will never look back if I get the chance to study the course at the University of Brighton.

Sample Personal Statement Supply Chain Management

personal statement for masters in logistics and supply chain management

by Talha Omer, MBA, M.Eng., Harvard & Cornell Grad

In personal statement samples by field.

Here is a sample personal statement of a supply chain professional who applied and was admitted to top graduate programs in supply chain and inventory management. She has graciously shared her successful essay so that prospective applicants can benefit from it.

Sample Personal Statement in Supply Chain Management

In today’s world, few have the chance to complete high school, even fewer get to go to college, and only a handful are fortunate enough to pursue graduate studies. My country ranks 91 out of the 150 nations on the global literacy index and evens lower in female literacy; being raised in a rural area of the country where education is the least of priorities, I was exposed very early in my life to the disparities that exist between the haves and the have-nots. Therefore, my academic and professional endeavours over the past four years are an attempt at fulfilling the responsibility which comes with my good fortune of being amongst the affluent. In what follows, I discuss how these experiences have shaped my interests and led me to pursue an academic career in Supply Chain Management.

We all have role models – for me, it was my father. As an immigrant to France, he established an extremely profitable restaurant chain from the ground up. He achieved what others take generations to accomplish through meticulous planning, motivation, and perseverance. He always encouraged me to work with him at his restaurant during my vacations which I gladly did. By closely working with him for several years, I have acquired his qualities of superior management and quantitative analysis – essential for a career in business management.

My practical voyage in supply chain began early at my father’s restaurants. At the restaurant, using historical data and applying forecasting techniques, I learned how to handle better lead time to produce better results for our company. In addition, excel-based quantitative modelling and inventory management tools allowed me to accurately stock what was required and discard what was not. These measures significantly reduced our warehousing costs and space.

However, my first academic exposure to the Supply Chain course came when I had to lead a group project for “New Mexico Spinning Mills”, – a textile production facility. After doing brief research by interviewing several employees at the production unit and getting our hands on their supply, demand, and procurement data, I learned how the firm reduced costs and increased productivity by accurately forecasting future needs. They had complex predictive models to churn out expected order levels with high accuracy. This was particularly new for me since the company used Monte Carlo simulation and advanced modelling techniques to ensure excellent precision. Being able to determine their demand, they placed precise orders and effective contracts with their suppliers and reduced any uncertainty.

Recent decades have seen a fundamental shift in the market landscape, with companies taking full advantage of supply chain techniques to improve businesses. Being particularly intrigued by its value proposition, I began my full-time internship at “Morlo Spinning Mills” in their Supply Chain Operations department. My work entailed using various modelling techniques to develop inventory models and creating a performance monitoring system for key business metrics. Here, not only have I acquired a diverse set of analytical skills, but I have also developed an admiration for research in its ability to tackle complex problems arising in practice.

Beyond course and fieldwork, perhaps the most inspiring experience for me was reading the article “Efficient consumer response in Japan Industry concerns, current status, benefits, and barriers to implementation.” It clearly and vividly laid out the importance of the supply chain. Specifically, it talks about one application of supply chain – efficient consumer response (ECR). ECR revolves around using technology and efficient processes to ensure greater customer value. This paper demonstrates how Supply Chain is changing how we think about such problems and continuously improving upon existing solutions to drive efficiency and profitability. As an aspiring academician, I look forward to contributing to this effort.

Through my coursework and internship experiences, I have developed an interest in predictive and descriptive modelling. In my work at my father’s restaurant and internships, I have always seen the immense need for statistics and other analytical techniques to solve procurement issues and dynamic statistical models that govern order replenishment in supply chains.

Because decision problems in these settings involve complex networks, multiple periods, and many products, I have also taken a keen interest in other approximation methods. Therefore, I am visiting Turkey later this month to research entrepreneurship in Supply Chain Management and the role played by universities in Istanbul and business incubators to improve the supply chain in Turkey. I plan to gather information by interviewing our selected audience, including Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, Deans, and Head of Departments or Institutions. The outcome of this is expected to come up with some research papers on and identifying the similarities and complementarities between the two countries in this field.

Warwick’s program in Supply Chain Management is particularly well-aligned with my interests, and I find courses in Procurement & Inventory management and applied statistics particularly appealing. Today, competition in the marketplace is compelling companies to become increasingly creative in optimizing their supply chain. As a result, I am eager to learn advanced techniques through coursework and projects that would eventually help me overcome hurdles that I faced in the restaurant business – and continuously strive to improve profitability.

The interdisciplinary nature of Supply Chain Management at Warwick stems from the diverse backgrounds of its faculty and students; this enables the program to span the spectrum of cutting-edge applied and theoretical research in Supply chain. Given the range of professional experiences, I have had over the years, being a Masters’s student in this department would be the ideal start to my academic career. I am particularly looking forward to studying in the highly competitive environment of Warwick because competition brings out the best in me. In addition, this program will fulfil my passion for applying mathematical theory to solving complex problems and allow me to leverage my analytical skills and industry experience to contribute to the program’s intellectual diversity.

Statement of Purpose – Supply Chain Management

In today’s interconnected and increasingly competitive global economy, companies must have cutting-edge supply chain management in order to stay abreast of changes in global production capacity and adjust accordingly. For my future career, I am interested in contract manufacturing in countries such as China and Korea. Specifically, I hope to work as a Purchasing Manager at a company such as Samsung, which must maintain innovative development and implementation of supply chain strategies in order to stay competitive and profitable on an international scale. By studying at XXX University, I expect to learn more about all of the links in a supply chain and how to make strategic changes as needed to ensure continued competitiveness. Through the extensive academic resources in your program, including not only the classes and lectures but also the industry links and practical experiences, I expect to emerge with a highly practical understanding of how to manage a complex supply chain in the contemporary dynamic business world.

With the academic and work experiences I have accumulated thus far, I feel well prepared and confident to enter your MSc program. In 2012, I earned a Bachelor of Management degree from Goodwell State University, specializing in Financial Management. Through this program, I acquired a general introduction to many aspects related to management, including marketing, supply chain, human resources, finance and accounting. I also worked on a number of research papers concerning, for example, the pricing of IPOs and SWOT analysis of companies. In my senior year, I took an internship in UBC bank, where I gained a much more practical perspective of what I had learned in classes while honing my professional skills and learning of the operations of a successful large-scale company. Since graduation, I have been working in the credit department of MegaSuper Bank, dealing directly with individual and corporate customers and analyzing risk on a daily basis.

My university studies and work experience give me a broad understanding of the business world, and it is because of this perspective that I have decided to focus on supply chain management for my future career. Because supply chain management is an inherently international field, I know that I could benefit greatly by undertaking further studies overseas, which is why I am applying to your university. In preparation for going abroad, I have been studying English intensively, and I recently earned excellent GMAT and IELTS scores, as shown on my CV. By studying in your program, I hope to acquire broader, more in-depth knowledge of this subject, with the goal of going on to a career as a Purchasing Manager. This will require me to have a keen understanding of all links in the supply chain. Through the lectures, case studies, and research project undertaken in your program, I expect to soon have the skills necessary to help companies ensure a competitive supply chain. In other words, I view an education in XXX University as a crucial stepping stone towards my future career.

The Heroines of Logistics

One to two percent of the workforce in the world maritime and logistics industries is made up of women, among the 125 million people working in the industry as a whole.

The logistics industry also has a poor perception of its career opportunities, which has positively led to a debate around skills gaps and a lack of gender diversity.

Addressing perceptions that the logistics industry is a career option for a very specific type of person is a real challenge. It's hard to escape the impression that roles primarily involve moving and lifting.

As one of the heroines of the logistics sector, a few of Melanie Hall´s experiences have highlighted this: health and safety gear being produced in large sizes; she’s felt that having shorter hair would make for easier compliance; and she’s had to manage plenty of quick changes out of tights and into socks and steel-toed boots. Hall won't opt to wear a skirt or dress on the days she knows she´ll be in the warehouse.

When she first started in logistics, she was more conscious of being female than she is now. She once noticed at an internal meeting that, aside from the HR rep, that she was the only female present. She wondered at the time if this was likely to be a regular occurrence. But as the competitive landscape changes, delivering for a customer is fast becoming the single most important measure of success, and gender is becoming less important.

Logistics permeates every industry and business sector in the world. It covers retail, life sciences, fashion, technology, construction, transport and so on. This means that in addition to needing drivers and warehouse operatives, there's also a requirement for business development and customer-facing personnel with expertise in the industries in which customers operate.

Hall manages a diverse team of professionals in operations, customer services, finance and even industry experts. Her typical day is full of meetings with customers, her team or the company as a whole to ensure we're moving in the right direction.

The logistics industry is working to make changes to attract a more diverse workforce. However, in doing so, it's important that there is a focus on hiring women in positions where they have visibility to inspire and encourage other women into the industry.

For Hall, being a woman in the logistics industry isn't an issue. She has always believed that she’s in a role to do a job, and to get the job done you need variety in the skills and expertise of the team. Hall can see why the industry may seem daunting to some, but it's important to understand that current perceptions of the industry aren't always accurate.

If you´re considering the move into logistics, Hall recommends focusing on building you own brand – it's the best way to ensure you're accepted in the role for your abilities, she says. Hall has been guilty of looking at a role and thinking "what can't I do?" but it's important to focus on what you can bring to your role. “We should relish diversity,” she adds. “The industry will only be able to attract the right talent and overcome its perception issues by better promoting the scope of opportunities available.”

We need more women in this business! If you´re a supporter of this idea, or you´d like to explore further study in this area, please don´t hesitate to make the most of our services.

Important Things to Keep in Mind

The statement of purpose is a distinctive element of your college application because of its subjective nature. Hence, candidates often find themselves confused with different aspects of their SOP

Here are a Few General Tips That can Help You Declutter Your SOP:-

Be informative.

Universities expect MBA candidates to have the required skill sets and exposure in the field, which makes providing the selection board with an informative and concise account of your academic and work experiences an important step towards presenting a strong candidature. Avoid mentioning details that are not relevant to your career prospects.

Highlight your approaches towards problem handling, task management, and other important management skills that will be important for your specialization in supply chain management.

Use Appropriate Format

Keep in mind that the selection board isn’t exclusively assessing your application, but hundreds or even thousands of applications.

So, in order to stand out, you will have to make a strong impression, for which, using a good format is important. Make sure your font sizes are readable i.e neither too small nor neither too large. Use a simple and formal font style. Do not use fancy templates and use appropriate alignment.

Talk to the Point

Your SOP should not be too long and bulky. A good SOP strikes the right balance between concise and informative. Make sure not to come to and fro on topics, follow a timeline.

Do not fixate on any topic, write with a flow and ensure smooth transitions from one paragraph to another.

Keep a Check on Your Grammar

Use simple and effective vocabulary for your SOP. Flowery language and technical terms should be avoided. Make sure to run your work through grammar tools and checks on the web while manually proofreading throughout the process.

Sample SOP for MBA in Supply Chain Management [2022]

Statement of purpose.

Introduced to the field of the supply chain by my father, a part of the industry himself, I acknowledged my inclination towards the same fairly early. My proclivity to learn about different cultures and work together as a team despite the differences that render us unique drives my motivation to envision a career rooted in global operations. Fortunately, my ongoing education in the field of Commerce hosts a world full of opportunities, and the prospect of studying supply chain management fulfills both my personal and professional appetite. Guided by the strides in technology, the domain is full of potential and allows me to explore the opportunities to enhance and experience business operations by working in a team. In the years to come, I envision myself growing in the supply chain management fraternity and positively impacting the organization I am a part of, including being an integral part of devising strategies and their execution, as well as directing a team of professionals. It is my firm belief that my career goals and the development of my fullest potential can best be actualized under a Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management from XXX

Presently, I am pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with a concentration in International Accounting and Finance, from SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. The rewarding and inspiring environment at the university fosters the ideas of freedom, empowerment, creativity and innovation, and encourages students to pilot their own experiences. With core models of Performance Management, Financial Accounting for Business, Quantitative Technique for Business Decision, and Business Law and Economics, amongst an array of others, the program is establishing a robust foundation in the discipline, particularly aiding in me acquiring proficiency in the functioning of business organizations and commercial transactions. The comprehensive curriculum is imparted by skilled professors, who encourage and mold an excellent learning experience rooted in diverse teaching methods, including seminars and workshops. We are also taken on multiple industrial visits that help me understand the practical applications of the knowledge I have been obtaining in the past two years and opened my eyes to the broad scope of my study.

To further develop my competence and host a profound understanding of the subjects, I piloted a research paper on ‘An Overview of the Challenges to Implement Workplace Diversity,’ as published in the proceedings of the sixth International Conference on Business Research. Furthermore, as an initiative to learn about the facets of management, I indulged in a Diploma course in Human Resource Management, a modern leaders training in Management and Leadership, received a white belt and yellow belt in Six Sigma, and conducted an Accounting and Financial statement analysis. Additionally, I also attained a rudimentary understanding of the basics of the supply chain. The appreciation for my grasp of academic concepts came under gold medals in Principles of Marketing and Banking Theory Law and Practice, and silver ones in Organisational Management, Basic of Financial Accounting, Principles of Management, Basics of Cost Accounting, Business Statistics, and Financial Reporting. Furthermore, under the umbrella of debates, quizzes, and participation in various competitions, I broadened my horizons.

My professional journey commenced during a summer internship at Dr. Mohan Diabetes Specialities Centre. A first attempt at applying my understanding of the field  to better operations in real-time scenarios, I initially poured myself into learning about the organizational goals. Once equipped with a substantial grasp, I started to direct CSR activities, conducted analyses of revenue reports and return on investments, designed and executed the dashboard as well as interpreted the MOD-wise report and marketing spend. Soon, I progressed by undertaking an internship at Miles Education. Amidst the range of responsibilities entrusted to me, I primarily coordinated with a team of ten trainees and engaged in activities concerning SEO, blogs, social media marketing, and marketing research. I also anchored changes in the functioning of the firm and performed competitor analysis at regular intervals.

The prospect of seeking a Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management from XXX fills me with avidity and hope for the future. The Quinlan Business School’s focus on educating future leaders who can strengthen the international business system is found in its unique global and local approach rooted in the dynamic curriculum that ranges across various industry disciplines. The rudimentary principle of supply chain management, namely understanding and solving the complex challenges of moving goods globally to ensure their timely and accurate arrival, is inculcated by the institution through course material delving into the key areas of the industry such as purchasing, transportation, logistics, distribution, and warehousing. The modules of Global Logistics, Inventory Management, Business Analytics, and Business Ethics catch my attention in particular, and I look forward to linking them to the base of my academic education and furthering my capabilities. In addition, regarded professors, videlicet Dr. Maciek Nowak and his research on the use of various heuristic optimization techniques for vehicle routing problems, as well as Dr. Michael Hewitt’s commitment to developing quantitative models of decisions found in the transportation and supply chain management domains, adds to the institution’s esteem. By fostering creative, communication, and teamwork skills and the dedication to achieving competence in supply chain management, I am confident of proving myself as an asset to the university. Furthermore, the comprehensive nature of my undergraduate education allows me to refine my perspective learning, paving the way to get equipped in an enhanced field. Hence, I request the admissions committee to consider my application.

An SOP for logistics and supply chain management is a vital document that will influence a student’s admission into a leading global educational institution. An SOP or Statement of Purpose is an essay that describes the applicant’s capability to undertake a course at the university to which they are applying. It is one of the essential parts of the application procedure while applying to universities abroad. Therefore, it is important to write a pleasing SOP that would assure the people in the admission committee of the candidate’s eligibility to get admission into the university. Mentioned before are the guidelines and a sample SOP for logistics and supply chain management that would be helpful for students.

SOP for Logistics and Supply Chain Management- Guidelines

When writing a sample statement of purpose for logistics and supply chain management, students should be aware of its format and other guidelines, which are as follows.

  • The SOP should ideally be within 800-1,000 words, depending on the word limit set by the university.
  • They should address several aspects like the skills they currently have, what makes them eligible for pursuing a degree in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, what they expect from this particular program, and what are their career aspirations.
  • Mention their attributes, special skills, and other qualities, making them suitable and well-qualified aspirants.
  • The candidate must show how they have a clear understanding of the course material and their expectations of the program.
  • Provide specific evidence or proof of potential to build long-term careers in this segment, i.e. through case studies, internship experience, and other aspects.

Sample SOP for Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Here is a sample statement of purpose that students can draw inspiration from while writing their SOPs.

The professional world is highly competitive today, and boundaries are blurring owing to globalization, digitization, and the need for businesses to always stay agile. The importance of supply chain management and logistics has gone up manifold in recent times, particularly since product manufacturing is steadily becoming more concentrated in specific global regions and monopolistic frameworks are being enjoyed by several suppliers. These are aspects that grabbed my attention and made me take up the commerce stream in high school instead of science. The innovations needed in this business field and the strategic execution of several ideas have stimulated my imagination more than any other pursuit.

As I completed my graduation in Commerce with (percentage) of marks, my professor in marketing management encouraged my passion and creativity, which was relevant to logistics and supply chain management. He advised me to pursue higher education in this arena. He also suggested to me the names of some of the reputed universities from where I can pursue my master’s degree.

He recommended several books which I have already read in order to derive a greater understanding of logistics and supply chain management. During my undergraduate days, the research and project work I undertook was more inclined toward this field, although it did cover selling and manufacturing to an extent. In such project work, I was successful in highlighting the importance of a good supply chain and logistics pipeline for business growth and expansion.

With my academic achievements, reference material, and research, I am hugely enthusiastic and determined to pursue my course in supply chain management and logistics while getting a global degree that will empower me to work in the global market with giant manufacturing nations such as Japan, China, and Korea. I dream of someday replicating the same model in my home country as well.

My aspirations to pursue a degree at your university were due to the excellent course curriculum that aligns with industry standards, cutting-edge technologies, and expertise of the faculty members. The modules on Logistics and Financial Management, Logistics and Human Resource Management, Business Strategy and Marketing Logistics, and Inventory/Production Planning, Procurement, and Transport appealed to me as they would help me know the very intricacies of the domain in detail. Besides that, the university’s industrial partnerships with some of the top-tier countries would help me receive the necessary practical exposure. A look at the university website got me hooked on the works of Profs (names of a few faculty members), and I am quite excited to learn from them.

I am fully prepared to commence my journey of education in this field. Admission to your esteemed university will give me the best chance to boost my skills and knowledge while simultaneously gaining global insights. I am hopeful that my academic and professional credentials are sufficient to secure me a seat in the (name of the program) with the session beginning in (month).
