Online Application form for Ph.D. programme through JNU Entrance Examination for the Academic Session 2022-23 has started

A warm welcome to the modified and updated website of the Centre for East Asian Studies. The East Asian region has been at the forefront of several path-breaking changes since 1970s beginning with the redefining the development architecture with its State-led development model besides emerging as a major region in the global politics and a key hub of the sophisticated technologies. The Centre is one of the thirteen Centres of the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi that provides a holistic understanding of the region.

Initially, established as a Centre for Chinese and Japanese Studies, it subsequently grew to include Korean Studies as well. At present there are eight faculty members in the Centre. Several distinguished faculty who have now retired include the late Prof. Gargi Dutt, Prof. P.A.N. Murthy, Prof. G.P. Deshpande, Dr. Nranarayan Das, Prof. R.R. Krishnan and Prof. K.V. Kesavan. Besides, Dr. Madhu Bhalla served at the Centre in Chinese Studies Programme during 1994-2006. In addition, Ms. Kamlesh Jain and Dr. M. M. Kunju served the Centre as the Documentation Officers in Chinese and Japanese Studies respectively.

The academic curriculum covers both modern and contemporary facets of East Asia as each scholar specializes in an area of his/her interest in the region. The integrated course involves two semesters of classes at the M. Phil programme and a dissertation for the M. Phil and a thesis for Ph. D programme respectively. The central objective is to impart an interdisciplinary knowledge and understanding of history, foreign policy, government and politics, society and culture and political economy of the respective areas. Students can explore new and emerging themes such as East Asian regionalism, the evolving East Asian Community, the rise of China, resurgence of Japan and the prospects for reunification of the Korean peninsula. Additionally, the Centre lays great emphasis on the building of language skills. The background of scholars includes mostly from the social science disciplines; History, Political Science, Economics, Sociology, International Relations and language.

Several students of the centre have been recipients of prestigious research fellowships awarded by Japan Foundation, Mombusho (Ministry of Education, Government of Japan), Saburo Okita Memorial Fellowship, Nippon Foundation, Korea Foundation, Nehru Memorial Fellowship, and Fellowship from the Chinese and Taiwanese Governments. Besides, students from Japan receive fellowship from the Indian Council of Cultural Relations.

JNU PhD Admission 2022: Last Date To Register Today; Entrance Exam In December

National testing agency (nta) will close the application process for jawaharlal nehru university (jnu) phd admission 2022 today, november 20..

The application process for Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) PhD admission 2022 will close today, November 20. Aspiring candidates can register for JNU PhD admission 2022 through the online web portal-- jnuexams.nta.ac.in, till 11:50 pm. The National Testing Agency (NTA) is authorised to conduct the Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination, JNUEE 2022 for admission to PhD programmes offered by the university.

Aspirants who will register for the can make necessary corrections/modifications in their online application form between November 22 and November 24, 2022. The eligibility criteria and subject-wise qualification details are mentioned in the information brochure released by the NTA on its website. Candidates are advised to thoroughly read it and fill out the online application as instructed. There is no maximum age limit for the candidates appearing for the JNU PhD programme.

JNU PhD Admission 2022: Exam Details

The JNUEE 2022 examination for PhD courses will be held on December 7, 8, 9 and 10, 2022. The entrance exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode for a duration of 180 minutes (3 hours). The examination will be conducted in two sessions- the first session of the exam will be held from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm, and the second session of the entrance exam will be organised from 2:30 pm to 05:30 pm.

The JNUEE 2022question paper will include multiple choice questions (MCQs) and the language medium of the paper will be English only. Candidates will be awarded one mark (+1) for each correct response, while there is no negative marking for incorrect responses. The syllabus for the entrance exam is mentioned in the e-prospectus issued by the university on its website-- jnu.ac.in.

• 4th Step - Enter JNUEE application number and password.
• 5th Step - The JNUEE admit card will appear on the screen.  
• 6th Step - Download the same and save it for future references. 

JNUEE 2022 Application Correction Window 

The Jawaharlal Nehru University Entrance Examination (JNUEE) 2022 application form correction process will close today - November 24. Candidates can make the necessary changes in JNUEE application form till 11:50 pm. The JNUEE application corrections can be made through the official website of JNUEE- jnuexams.nta.ac.in. There is no additional fee for making corrections. However, if candidates change the category or number of fields of study, a fee is required.

Ph.D Programmes

Candidates with an M.Sc. or equivalent, B.E/B.Tech/B.S (4 year) or equivalent or M.E/M.Tech or equivalent or B.VSc/M.VSc or MBBS/MD as applicable to Individual Units as given in the table below are eligible to apply.  They should have at least 55% in their highest University examination and should also have qualified in any one of the National exams: GATE/JEST/GPAT/UGC-JRF/CSIR-NET-JRF/ICMR-JRF/DBT-JRF/INSPIRE-JRF. The award certificate/score card of such test should be valid as on 1st August 2024. Candidates applying through INSPIRE mode must possess valid provisional INSPIRE offer issued by the DST for consideration of their application during selection.

It is desirable that  ME/M.Tech or equivalent degree holders  qualify in one of the national exams mentioned above.

Selection procedure

Candidates are short-listed for an interview based on their performance in the national exam(s) and academic performance. The selection is based on the performance in the interview (in some Units, an aptitude test/preliminary interview may precede the final interview)

Note: Interviews will be held in-person only.

Fellowships:

Ph D students will receive JRF/SRF (as per Govt. norms) of Rs. 37,000/- p.m (first two years) - 42,000 (next three years). 

M S (Research)/ M S (Engg.) students will receive scholarship of Rs. 37,000/- p.m 

Medical / Insurance facility  : Students are automatically enrolled in a Group Insurance Scheme and a Comprehensive Medical Scheme and have access to an on-campus doctor, as well as to medical facilities elsewhere.

Travel grants:

Ph.D : One time  students travel grant upto Rs.1,00,000/- is provided to attend international/national conferences.

MS(Engg.)/MS(Research)  :  One time students travel grant upto Rs.40,000/- is provided to attend international/national conferences.

Our students have attended conferences in countries such as Korea, Iran, France, Singapore, the United States of America, Japan, Sweden, Italy, Israel, etc.

Tution Fee, etc  : Current norms for payment of tuition fees is Rs.10,000/- per annum for Ph.D and Rs.7,000/- for MS(Engg.)/MS(Research). In addition, Rs 200 as medical charges and group insurance fee of Rs. 25 will be charged every month.

ICGEB-JNU PhD Fellowships

The ICGEB-JNU PhD Programme for Indian Nationals is conducted in three streams: 1. Molecular Medicine, 2. Plant Biology and 3. Integrative Biology and is run exclusively at ICGEB New Delhi.

Applications: NOV 2023

Eligibility

Indian Candidates with: First class (60% or equivalent grade) M.Sc. in any branch of Science (e.g. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, etc.) or M.Tech. or M.B.B.S. or M.V.Sc. or M.Pharm. or equivalent qualification recognised by  Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) , New Delhi, and have cleared any one of the following examinations: DBT (I), CSIR, UGC , ICMR , BINC, or any other equivalent Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination and fellowships valid for at least four years are eligible to apply.

Indian Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination in the same year may also apply; they will be admitted provisionally pending satisfactory fulfillment of the above requirements at the time of joining.

Indian Candidates with only GATE and DBT (II) are NOT eligible. 

Every year applications are invited during the months of March through May via the online portal.  Admissions  are offered on the basis of the performance in the written examination and interviews conducted at ICGEB, New Delhi.

After admission Indian national candidates must successfully complete the Graduate Course work to be eligible for Ph.D. registration. The minimum duration for the Ph.D. is three years. Upon successful completion of the viva voce examination, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree is awarded by the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi.

Individual offer letters to the selected students are sent by email.

Please note that it may not be possible to accommodate your exact preference of research area within the stream you are selected.

a) Original and Self Attested copy of M.Sc. Degree Certificate b) Original and Self Attested copy of M.Sc. Final year Marksheet c) Original and Self Attested copy of valid Fellowship Award letter d) Original and Self Attested copy of 10th Class Certificate e) Original and Self Attested copy of caste certificate if applicable f) Online transfer of ₹ 15,000/- towards one time admission fee and security deposit for the Ph.D. Programme at ICGEB, New Delhi. JNU: अब पीएचडी के लिए नहीं पास करना होगा एनटीए का एंट्रेंस एग्जाम, इस स्कोर के बेस पर मिलेगा एडमिशन

Jnu phd admission 2024: जवाहरलाल नेहरू यूनिवर्सिटी के पीएचडी प्रोग्राम में एडमिशन पाने के लिए अब एनटीए के एंट्रेंस एग्जाम को पास नहीं करना होगा. बल्कि इस परीक्षा के स्कोर के बेस पर चयन होगा..

JNU PhD Admission On Basis Of NET Score: अब जेएनयू के पीएचडी प्रोग्राम में प्रवेश पाने के लिए स्टूडेंट्स को एनटीए द्वारा अलग से आयोजित होने वाली प्रवेश परीक्षा नहीं पास करनी होगी. इसके बजाय यूनिवर्सिटी नेट स्कोर के बेसिस पर कैंडिडेट्स को एडमिशन देगी. जवाहरलाल नेहरू यूनिवर्सिटी ने तय किया है कि पीएचडी एडमिशन का क्राइटेरिया बदला जाएगा. एनटीए के एंट्रेंस एग्जाम के बजाय नेशनल एलिजबिलिटी टेस्ट के स्कोर को ही मान्यता मिलेगी.

एक ही एंट्रेंस एग्जाम से बनेगी बात

इस बाबत जारी नोटिस में यूनिवर्सिटी ने कहा है कि स्टूडेंट्स को ये सुविधा देने के लिए जिसके तहत उन्हें एक ही नेशनल लेवल के एंट्रेंस एग्जाम के माध्यम से पीएचडी कोर्स में प्रवेश मिल जाए, नियमों को बदला जा रहा है. ये नियम एनईपी 2020 की सिफारिशों पर आधारित हैं और इस पब्लिक नोटिस में साफ किया गया है कि एनटीए द्वारा आयोजित होने वाली यूजीसी नेट और सीएसआईआर नेट परीक्षा के बेस पर ही कैंडिडेट्स को पीएचडी में एडमिशन मिलेगा.

नये सेशन से लागू होगा नियम

नये नियम का पालन एकेडमिक सेशन 2024-25 से किया जाएगा. इसके अंतर्गत एनटीए को अब जेएनयू के पीएचडी प्रोग्राम के लिए अलग से प्रवेश परीक्षा नहीं आयोजित करनी होगी. इसके अलावा भी कुछ नियम हैं, जिनका ध्यान रखना होगा. इनकी सूची इस प्रकार है.

क्या है एडमिशन क्राइटेरिया

• कैटेगरी वन के तहत जेआरएफ क्वालीफाइड कैंडिडेट्स आएंगे कैटेगरी टू में असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसरशिप लेकिन जेआरएफ नहीं वाले कैंडिडेट्स आएंगे. तीसरी कैटगरी में न जेआरएफ न असिस्टेंट प्रोफेसरशिप लेकिन पीएचडी के लिए नेट स्कोर पास करने वाले कैंडिडेट आएंगे.

JNU to accept National Eligibility Test instead of entrance exams for PhD programs

N ew Delhi [India], April 27 (ANI): Jawaharlal Nehru University ( JNU ) has announced that it will accept the National Eligibility Test ( NET ) score instead of the entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency ( NTA ) as the selection parameter for admission to its Doctor of Philosophy ( PhD ) programs from the current academic year.

UGC to help the students with one national entrance test as part of the implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, has decided vide its Public Notice dated March 27, 2024, that score of National Eligibility Test ( NET ) conducted by UGC and CSIR can be used by the Universities/HEIs for Ph.D Admission in place of entrance test, read the notice released by JNU on Saturday.

Following this directive, JNU has opted to use the NET scores for PhD admissions, effectively replacing the entrance test previously conducted by the National Testing Agency ( NTA ).

"Accordingly, JNU has decided to use NET score in place of the entrance test conducted by National Testing Agency ( NTA ) for admission to Ph.D Programmes in the University from the academic session 2024-25," the notice added.

Recently, after a protest by the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union ( JNU SU) at the University Grants Commission ( UGC ) Headquarters, the Joint Secretary of UGC met the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union ( JNU SU) office bearers.

The JNU SU pointed out that the arbitrary decision to replace PhD Entrance Exams with NET scores will further alienate a lot of students, especially those from marginalised sections, from research and the gates of universities will close for many.

The UGC Joint Secretary had responded that they would be holding an internal meeting on these points. It was also communicated that universities have the autonomy to conduct their entrance exams.

The JNU SU will be meeting the Director of Admissions on April 29, to demand that the PhD entrance exam for this year and henceforth be done through JNU EE. (ANI)
