powerpoint night ideas

As much as I enjoy a sweaty club night, or a 90-minute wait time at a hot new restaurant, every now and then, we all want to consider alternative social avenues. Namely avenues that don't require you and your friends to get dressed, glammed up, and spend a minimum of $100. That's why we're here to introduce you to a fabulous ~inside activity~, so your crew can chill together in the sweet, safe, air-conditioned indoors for as long as your hearts desire. Enter: PowerPoint nights.

Prepare your squad and get fancy with your PowerPoint skills/that Canva theme (I know your resume says "proficient in Microsoft Office")...or just use WordArt because who actually cares. It’s a super simple way to keep yourselves busy for the night—add a bit of wine to the mix and it'll become a fun drinking game if you wish. But if you're struggling to come up with a presentation topic that will grip your audience, we have you covered with these PowerPoint night ideas. 55 of them, in fact. *Cue the next slide*.

1. Disney Channel movie supremacy

Personally, I’m a High School Musical girlie till I die (the OG, ofc). But if you think it’s Twitches , I’d love to hear you try to convince me.

2. Each friend’s Kardashian-Jenner Alter Ego

There’s a Kim in every friend group. And if you organized the PowerPoint night, it might just be you.

3. The best year of your life and why

Feel free to dive back deep into the archives with this one. Don’t forget: pics or it didn’t happen!

4. Cringiest middle school photos

Take a gander down Facebook memory lane and find the most embarrassing photos of the friend group that still live on the interwebs. Warning: looking at these snaps may cause physical pain. (But it’s worth it for the lols.)

5. Your most-recent rabbit hole

If you’re anything like me, you can get sucked into rabbit holes on TikTok or Wikipedia—whether it’s deep-diving into some influencer beef or learning about a wild psychological phenomenon. Here’s your chance to put all that time you invested into the videos and surface-level Googling to good use and share your newfound knowledge with your friends.

6. The most iconic set of twins in history

This can be famous fraternals or just identicals that you went to elementary school with. Or, maybe you *are* a twin and you can make the PowerPoint all about you!

7. The best chain restaurant and why

Are you a Chili’s stan, Outback obsessor, or Red Lobster devotee? Prove why your fast-casual chain of choice is superior, with photos and menu highlights.

8. The ultimate cocktail championship

Explain why your boozy bev of choice is the best of all time, and bring in samples to really prove your point. Cocktail night 🤝 PowerPoint night.

9. Each friend’s celebrity lookalike

Forget about that one TikTok filter, you can do better. I wish I could see the side-by-side comparisons myself.

10. The makeup product you can’t live without

Everyone has that one go-to they’ve been using since like, senior year of high school. No gatekeeping here: let your friends in on your little secret weapon, and maybe even do a tutorial to show off all the goodness.

11. Ugliest outfit awards

Sometimes fashion risks don’t pay off. Look back through some of your old OOTDs (or digi camera shots from middle/high school/college) and pick out the cringiest of the cringe.

12. Guessing the last person each friend texted

If your friends all assume your last text was to your ex…it might be time to reevaluate some things.

13. Seeing the future

Pick a number—5, 10, 20, and 50 all work well—and decide what each friend will be doing that many years in the future. Look into that crystal ball, baby!

14. Which friend would die first in a horror movie

If you’re not sure, there’s a solid chance it’s you.

15. The house you would buy if you had $10 million.

It can be anywhere in the world, and it should definitely have a pool.

16. Coke vs. Pepsi

Pick your champion and fight the good fight.

17. Each friend’s red, green, and beige flag

Don’t know what a beige flag is? Read this story to find out…and then think hard about the weird sh*t your friends do.

18. The ultimate sandwich combo

First, you explain the best selection of ingredients to put on a sandwich. Then, you share the best accompaniment to go with said sandwich (chips, apple slices, a brownie…you get the jist).

19. Why [insert celebrity crush] should choose you as their life partner.

You might as well shoot your shot in writing…maybe your friends will send the PowerPoint to their manager?

20. What each friend’s alternate career would be

Basically, each slide should go like this: “If [insert name] wasn’t doing [insert profession] they would be doing [insert thing they would thrive at].” And then explain why, duh.

21. The most iconic celebrity coupling

I urge you to dig reaaaal deep in the archives for this one. If you need some inspo, check out this lis t of celebrities you probably forgot dated in the 2010s.

22. Your favorite conspiracy theory

Do you believe the moon landing was fake? Or that Avril Lavigne was replaced by a body double? Now’s the chance to make your point heard. And if you’re a true realist, you can just use this time to share the conspiracy theory that entertains you the most.

23. Rating the friend group based on their driving abilities

I know you immediately just thought of one friend that you never, by any means, want to get in the car with.

24. The best treats from your childhood

Scooby Snack squad, rise up.

25. Things you think are overrated

Consider this a deinfluencing session for all of your closest friends. And a vent session for you.

26. The funniest YouTube videos of all time

Personally, I’m torn between David After Dentist and Charlie Bit My Finger .

27. Your [insert upcoming season] bucket list

You know, just a casual list of must-dos for the winter, spring, summer, or fall season, depending on which one is coming up. All activities must be completed with friends, ofc.

28. Ranking cartoon characters by hotness

Some people have a thing for Larry the Lobster from Spongebob , and others can’t take their eyes off of Princess Jasmine. Both are normal and fine and understandable.

29. Your friends as Shrek characters

Cast everyone as all the creatures from Far, Far Away. This also makes a pretty solid group Halloween costume, just saying.

30. Ranking of who’s most likely to get the final rose on The Bachelor

You can predict the four hometown dates and then the eventual winner of the current Bach season (no looking at spoilers allowed!!).

31. The friend group trivia game

This is your chance to see if everyone in the group chat can answer the most obscure questions about each other. You can cheat by having each person submit the q's to whoever's making the presentation.

32. Predictions of who Pete Davidson will date next

There have been a lot of memes circulating feat. Pete with Meryl Streep, but it honestly could be anyone. Your job is to make a case for each one.

33. Explain that image

You can really have fun digging up the ghosts of social media past with this one: Pull random pics from v far back in everyone's Facebook history, if anyone still actually uses it (like we’re talking the Picnik days). Then each person in the group has to sit in the virtual hotseat and give details about who/what/where/when/why that photo was taken.

34. Hottest Disney Channel character rating

Pretty self-explanatory. All you have to do is explain why it's Cody Martin.

35. Everyone's worst ex

Soooo, this one could get a little bit heated, but it's a conversation starter for sure. It also requires knowing your friend group and its history very well (see the friend trivia PowerPoint first).

36. The most [insert zodiac sign] thing each person has ever done

Permission to lightly roast the Leos—I can say that since I am one—and Scorpios in the room. Be gentle with your Pisces friends, though.

37. Celebs who look exactly alike

If you've ever seen any movie with Margot Robbie or Samara Weaving in it, you probably just assumed they were the same person. There are enough of these doppelgangers to make a full presentation, trust me.

38. Beyoncé songs to describe each person

Someone's gonna be "Sorry" and someone's gonna be "Single Ladies" and that's okay.

39. When we peaked

A case study on the best collective time in your friend group. Feel free to use IG as photographic evidence.

40. Which American Girl dolls you'd all be

Every friend group has a Samantha.

41. Everyone's love language

FYI, no need to stick to "quality time" and the other classics. Chicken nuggets at 3 a.m. is a real one, too.

42. Superlatives, adult edition

Forget whatever superlatives you guys got when you were in school (if you were one of those cool people). Award each of your pals an adult version of superlatives, such as most likely to Irish exit a party, most likely to order takeout even after a full Trader Joe's trip, etc.

43. Your Euphoria high school outfits

This really needs to be done by a friend who has legit Photoshop skills, but basically you're swapping everyone's regular photos with a Euphoria high school look .

44. What reality show each of you should try out for

Maybe it's Love Island UK, or perhaps it's Project Runway or Real Housewives. W ho's to say?

45. Who each friend was in a former lifetime

For example, I was in the Salem witch trials (taking no further questions at this time). Perhaps one of your other friends was a badass bartender during the Prohibition, or in the crowd at the first Woodstock in a past life.

46. Who has the hottest parents

You might need to be careful with this one. But I know you already know the answer.

47. Where you should take your next group trip

The most efficient way to pick the next friend-cation.

48. Your favorite comedian and why

Come prepared with clips to show your friends why your comedian of choice is the funniest of them all.

49. T.Swift era explainer

Go ahead and decide which of Taylor's many album eras suits each person the best. You can be an “Anti-Hero” and still belong in the Lover era, I really believe that!

50. Rating your kiss list

This one is def one to save for a hang with your closest friends (you know, the ones who can already rattle off most of the names on your list). Maybe just do a top three if time is of the essence.

51. Celebrity freaky Friday

Is there a superstar whose life you think you could handle for 24 hours? If yes, present all of the chaotic choices you'd make in their famous body. Would you DM Paul Mescal during your day as Dua Lipa? Maybe wire money to your own account with Kim Kardashian's Face ID access? The world is your oyster.

52. Your friends as famous monuments

Some people have center stage Statue of Liberty vibes, while others walk through life with the Eiffel Tower's powerful grace. For each member of your crew, pick a major landmark that energetically aligns with them. Warning: Counterarguments are inevitable with this subject.

53. Big three cities

You know your astrological sun, moon, and rising signs ? For each of your friends, pick three cities that represent their vibes in different ways. Your crew's resident party girl is def a Miami rising.

54. Dissecting DMs

Only the brave will be open to taking on this subject, but it calls for you to critically analyze your game. Pull out the flirty dating app/DM/iMessage screenshots, and grade your lines based on creativity, effectiveness, and cringe level. It might get a bit embarrassing, but remember that you're among friends!

55. Things that don't make sense

This one is inspired by the legendary TikTok trend of the same name. Round up a few concepts that just don't click in your brain, and explain why they simply just don't work for you.

50 Creative Ideas For Your Next PowerPoint Night

TikTok is the newest, hippest (just ask any twenty-something year old) social media platform and arguably the biggest thing since Instagram’s launch in 2010. The platform boasts over 1 billion users and has been downloaded an upwards of 200 million times in the United States alone. You can find all sorts of videos on TikTok from food recipes and fashion, to presentation tips. Its diverse, entertaining, short-form content is what makes the app so favorable across many different age groups and demographics.

Many trends and recommendations have come to light because of the ever-popular social media app like dances, sounds, and meals. But another TikTok trend that has taken millennials and Gen Z by storm is PowerPoint nights. PowerPoint nights became especially popular in 2020 during the pandemic when friends and family were looking for ways to connect with one another via technology. Essentially, friends create presentation decks about cheeky topics (unrelated to work or school) and present them to each other either in-person or through video calls. Oftentimes served with plenty of snacks and beverages, PowerPoint nights have become a new Friday night “thing” to do. A trend we can get behind.

And of course, we’re thrilled that it put presentations on the map for something fun other than board meetings and thesis assignments.

So we’re tapping in. Here are 50 creative ideas for your next PowerPoint night. Extra points if you use Beautiful.ai and tag us on TikTok.

For example, for a presentation on "water bottle brands ranked" you can enter the prompt "top 10 water bottle brands" and watch DesignerBot generate the deck for you like magic. You can then edit the slide(s) to reflect your personal rankings and thoughts without wasting time sourcing brand names, photos, or logos. You might even ask DesignerBot to pick a PowerPoint night topic for you— the possibilities are endless.

presentation night themes

Looking for a fun and creative way to hangout with friends? Try presenting one of these PowerPoint night ideas to your group for laughs.

Published Oct 13, 2023

TikTok created another gem for activities to do with friends: PowerPoint nights. A PowerPoint night is a chill, social event with friends , family or even in a social gathering place like game night at a local brewery. To participate, everyone creates a PowerPoint on a topic of their choosing and presents it to the group. At first the idea may sound like a nightmare to anyone with a fear of public speaking, but it is quite the opposite. PowerPoint nights take all the pressure out of giving a presentation and give you, your friends and guests the opportunity to talk about a topic you love or find funny. Check out this list if this idea sounds fun and you want some PowerPoint night ideas.

These PowerPoint night ideas are a fun way for friends, colleagues or group members to share their interests, passions or stories in a structured and visually engaging manner. Get creative by choosing random topic ideas or having each participant assign each other one.

The presentation can even be beneficial and fun at the same time . For example, use this night as practice for a friend or colleague who has to present at a meeting or class. They can make the presentation a bit silly to make it less stressful, and it will even serve as a rehearsal for the real thing. Just have fun and keep everything light hearted with whatever PowerPoint night ideas you and your other participants come up with.

PowerPoint Parties Are the Party Trend You Have to Try: Here's How to Host One

PowerPoint nights are the new fun way to party together. Try these clever PowerPoint party hosting tips and ideas for creating winning presentations.

Lauren is a former editor at Real Simple and currently serves as a senior digital editor for Better Homes & Gardens.

presentation night themes

All get-togethers are great, but PowerPoint parties have been particularly popular for livening up both in-person and virtual parties over the past few years. PowerPoint nights give everyone something to contribute to the party's success (beyond a hostess gift ). And they're great for connecting with far-flung friends or family, as you can easily host it over Zoom or video chat.

And the cool thing: All you need is a computer, a screen, and your friends' creativity to host a PowerPoint night that'll leave everyone laughing (and likely, looking to host their own PowerPoint party in the not-so-distant future).

If you're ready to jump on the PowerPoint party trend, here's everything you need to know to host one of your own, plus a ton of ideas for PowerPoint presentations that will make you the hit of any party you attend.

What is a PowerPoint Party?

A PowerPoint party takes the meeting and school presentation staple—the Microsoft PowerPoint presentation or slideshow—and makes it something fun, playful, and party-appropriate. PowerPoint party attendees craft and give presentations on topics of their choice. Drinking, themed costumes, Q&As, and other fun add-ons may also be included.

A PowerPoint party can also be done with Google Slides, Keynote (the presentation software from Apple available on iOS devices), or any other presentation tool—Microsoft PowerPoint is not required.

First popularized in 2018 , the PowerPoint party is best kept to a small group of people—it's not an activity for a crowded rager—and can be enjoyed virtually or in person.

How to Host a PowerPoint Party

To plan and host your very own PowerPoint party, first gather a select group of people who you think will enjoy the party. PowerPoint parties aren't for everyone, or for every occasion—it's something best left for smaller groups of adults, young adults, and teens. If you want to include younger kids, consider pairing them with an adult or an older child with experience giving presentations who can give them a little help, and if you want to have larger groups, consider dividing them into teams to create presentations.

When you invite people, explain the expectations of the party. What's the time limit or slide limit on each presentation? What's the dress code? Is the PowerPoint party themed?

The Drink, Talk, Learn (DTL) PowerPoint party—in which everyone simply chooses a topic they're passionate about, with no themes or restrictions—is the classic option, but if you want to do a themed PowerPoint party, check out some clever PowerPoint night ideas below. If you're worried about people having the same topic, ask that everyone submit their topics to you ahead of time to avoid any duplicates.

If you're attending a PowerPoint party, your presentation can be whatever you want it to be. (Most PowerPoint parties should be goofy, either in the topic or presentation.)

Use PowerPoint, Google Slides, or Keynote, fill your slideshow with images, charts, graphs, quotes, gifs, videos, and whatever else makes your point, and have fun with it. And don't be afraid to use all those weird effects that the apps offer that you never get to use in everyday work life. (Why not make that slide spin off into the ether?)

If you're hosting the party virtually , send around the link to join the video call early to avoid any technical difficulties. You can allow everyone to share their screen when they're presenting, or you can collect all the presentations and serve as the presenter.

Don't load up your slides with text. Use your slideshow for images, graphs, and keywords or phrases that help make your point. When you're presenting, don't just read what's on the screen; try to use notecards to make your argument. To ensure you rule at the PowerPoint party, take your presentation for a spin or two to fine tune what you want to say.

PowerPoint Night Hosting Ideas

To make your PowerPoint party even more fun or interesting, try adding some of these ideas to your gathering.

Turn the presentations into a drinking game

Have presenters take a sip of their drink every time they say "um" or another filler word, for example, or ask them to finish their drink in its entirety if their presentation extends beyond the allotted time. (Always drink responsibly, of course.) You could even pick an uncommon word or phrase—like pink umbrella, for example—and if anyone works it organically into their presentation, the whole party has to drink.

Create a dress code

Take the party up a notch by enforcing a themed dress code. If everyone is presenting about historical figures, have them dress up like their chosen figure. You could also ask everyone to wear business attire or dress entirely in one color.

Consider assigning topics

While it's fun to let them use their imagination and share a wide array of presentations at your PowerPoint night, assigning a topic theme or a specific topic can give your party more structure, and challenge your guests a little too. They'll have to work up a passion for their given topic, and you can laugh at their efforts to make their presentations entertaining. (Bonus points if you choose extremely obscure topics, like how staples are made or where sand comes from.)

Give out prizes

To get everyone invested in your PowerPoint party, make it competitive. Find a great prize and create a scoring sheet with points for the quality of presentation, the strength of argument, choice of images, outfit choice, adherence to the time limit, and whatever other details you think are important. Have everyone score their fellow presenters (all in jest) after their presentation. The winner at the end gets the prize.

There isn't just a single Oscar awarded, is there? Consider offering prizes in an array of categories at your PowerPoint party— the wildest use of PowerPoint effects, most dedicated presenter, best costume, etc.

25 PowerPoint Party Theme Ideas

Ready to host your very own themed PowerPoint party? Here are a few PowerPoint night ideas beyond the classic Drink, Talk, Learn party to get you started.

Drunk History

Presenters choose a historical figure or event and present about it. Have everyone dress like their figure or era, and encourage people to have a drink or two before their presentation to really make it interesting.

The Best [Whatever] of All Time

Every presenter picks a movie, TV show, video game, board game, fictional character, food, city, etc., and everyone makes the case that their pick is the best one of all time. Keep topic selections within the same genre to spark a little friendly competition.

Conspiracy Theories

Have everyone select a conspiracy theory and present it with the goal of convincing everyone that it could indeed be true.

Assigning Characters

All presenters pick a category—it could be dogs, foods, characters in a movie, TV show, or book, whatever—and explain who everyone would be in each group. (This is best done within a close-knit group of friends.) Presenters could explain which Harry Potter or The Office character everyone might be, or which type of pasta noodle they'd be. The opportunities are endless.

Who Survives?

Rate your friends on their survival skills in a number of dangerous events, such as The Hunger Games, a slasher movie, or a zombie apocalypse. Be sure to share how each pal at the PowerPoint party meets their bitter end, and who will survive the longest (and how).

Over/Underrated

Each guest shares their hot take on something that's overrated or underrated—and shares their reasoning behind it. It can be something from pop culture, foods, a beauty product, a fashion trend, or even a hobby.

Cast the Movie of Your Life

Who'd play your parents, your friends, your mate—and you! (Be sure to assign celebs for each of the attendees that you know, of course.)

Your Biggest Regrets

Reveal it all, from highlights-gone-wrong to spring break shenanigans to major parenting fails.

Rank dog breeds, highlight why lizards reign supreme, or go ahead and list the magical pets you'd love to have (hello, unicorns!).

How to Hacks

Share your skills! Take your friends step by step through concocting your signature cocktail, getting killer deals on travel, or crafting cool nail art.

The Perfect Undercover Names

Give every member of the crew their own secret agent moniker and highlight their spy-worthy skills, whether it's their next-level driving or ability to keep a (top) secret.

When Your Favorite Shows Jumped the Shark

Narrow it down to the key moment that the show in question started its decline in quality—and make your case for it.

Crystal Ball Prognostication

Imagine where you and your friends will be in five, 10, or 20 years from now. (The funnier your predictions, the better!)

Worst Gift Ever

Chronicle the weirdest gifts you (or people you know) received—and why they're bad. Don't forget photos!

Your Dream Wedding

Even if you're already paired off, pop in what you'd want to do to celebrate your wedding now if money was no object.

Bucket Lists

A PowerPoint party is the perfect opportunity to see which ones you share with your friends—and start making plans to cross them off together.

Guilty Pleasures

Share your favorite guilty pleasure(s), and lay out the argument why others should indulge as well.

Me in the Multiverse

Take a cue from Everything Everywhere All at Once and imagine what your alter egos are doing in alternate realities.

Junk Drawer Archaeology

Dive into the depths of your junk drawer and share the weirdest/smartest/oldest finds.

Confessions

Time to come clean on sins from your past or present, and plead your case for why it had to be done.

Friends Trivia

No, we're not talking about what the mail label says on Chandler Bing's TV Guide (though it's Chanandler Bong, if you need it for your next trivia night). Instead, quiz other guests to see how much they remember about each other.

Word to the Wise

Keep your friends from learning the hard way by sharing a life lesson you've learned.

Share your biggest (and ideally, weirdest) fears, and why you're not a fan.

Two Truths and a Lie

Turn the classic party game into a PowerPoint party presentation—and see who knows you best.

Share the tales (and ideally, photos!) of projects you envisioned, and how they went wrong.

A new and exciting way to present your PowerPoint night ideas

Once you’ve decided on a topic, this is where the fun begins – creating your presentation. While PowerPoint presentations offer a very structured format, there’s a way you can turn your slide-based presentation format into something more engaging and fun . With Prezi, you can create a more dynamic presentation that overshadows conventional slideshows.

How Prezi stands out

For people who want to put their PowerPoint night ideas into action, Prezi is a popular choice. It’s not just the way Prezi presentations look, but also the ease with which users can create them – now with Prezi AI – that makes Prezi a great platform for presentations. With many built-in tools that make the process simpler, there’s no longer a need to waste time creating traditional slideshows when Prezi can do a lot of the work for you. Let’s look at some Prezi features that would be particularly useful for bringing your PowerPoint night ideas to life.

AI presentation creator

One of Prezi’s biggest game-changers is its built-in AI assistant. Forget spending hours wrestling with layouts and agonizing over transitions. Prezi AI helps you transform your ideas, keywords, or even a rough outline into a captivating narrative . Simply jot down your key points, and Prezi AI will seamlessly arrange them into a visually stunning presentation.

This intuitive approach is perfect for creating a PowerPoint night presentation, where you might need to craft your presentation on the fly . Prezi AI handles the visual heavy-lifting, ensuring a polished presentation that keeps your audience engaged, freeing you to focus on delivering your topic and ideas with confidence.

AI text editing

Presentation nights should be light-hearted and fun, so why spend hours writing up slides when the Prezi AI text tool can speed up the process? This cool feature can recommend text for each section of your presentation, based on your chosen PowerPoint night ideas. You can prompt the AI by feeding it the information you want to talk about and it will write it up in a way that’s readable. It can also offer suggestions and edits for your text, so you don’t need to worry about spelling mistakes or whether your sentences make sense.

Layout functions

Not only can Prezi AI assist you with crafting text, but it can also help with the layout of each frame. It can condense text to bite-sized chunks and suggest a layout that’s clear for your audience, such as bullet points and lists. The AI can also offer recommendations for where each part of your slide should be placed for maximum impact and understanding, like where your text should be placed in comparison to images and visuals. This is essential when putting your PowerPoint night ideas into action, as it takes the hassle out of the design aspect and lets you focus on the content you want to talk about.

Open canvas

This is a signature feature of Prezi. The open canvas means that instead of a slide-by-slide slideshow, you can zoom in on important points and then zoom back out to the bigger picture. A good slideshow will usually tell a story, and this way of presenting your slides is perfect for storytelling, as you can walk the audience in and out of each scene as you’re telling the story. The end result will be a more dynamic, exciting slideshow than traditional methods. Presentation nights are all about humour and getting people talking, and Prezi presentations do just that.

Examples of Prezi in action

This presentation showcases Prezi open canvas features beautifully. As you can see, the presentation begins with a full view of the content, and then as the presentation progresses it uses the zoom feature to capture each point close up. This is much more enjoyable than traditional slideshows, and it’s a great way to put your PowerPoint night ideas into action.

International celebration of ice cream

This Prezi is a great example of how you can make a presentation that’s fun and engaging, the perfect inspiration for your PowerPoint night ideas. Again, the open canvas adds a layer of excitement that’s totally different from slideshows. The choice of lively colors and images used here would be great for a presentation night. Prezi has many visuals to choose from that you can add to your presentation, adding an extra layer of entertainment for your guests.

Powerpoint night ideas that come to life with the help of Prezi

To wrap up, Prezi stands out as a superior choice for those looking to elevate their PowerPoint nights from simple slideshows to engaging stories. Prezi’s design tools, including Prezi AI , make the creation process much easier. The standout open canvas feature allows presenters to showcase key points, making stories more dynamic. This approach makes sure your PowerPoint nights are far from dull, encouraging laughter and discussions through impactful presentations.

What is PowerPoint night?

A PowerPoint night is an interactive social event where friends present their PowerPoint slides on chosen topics (or the most obscure questions), creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for friends, family, or colleagues. Also known as PowerPoint parties, they can be hosted in person or through video calls.

A theme for the night is chosen, and each individual or group creates presentation decks about funny topics to present. Usually accompanied by lots of finger foods and drinks, it’s a refreshing change from the same old party games.

The possibilities are endless. Pick ideas from any category to suit the dynamics of your groups. Add drinking games. Personalize the ideas for specific jobs or niche interests. This is an activity that can be played by a lot of friends at once, so get creative!

powerpoint night ideas

In an age dominated by technology, it’s no surprise that PowerPoint presentations have become a ubiquitous part of our lives. Whether it’s in the boardroom, the classroom, or even the living room, we’ve all encountered these digital slideshows at some point. While PowerPoint is a valuable tool for conveying information and data, it can also be a source of entertainment and creativity. One such creative avenue is hosting a PowerPoint Night. This unique and enjoyable event has gained popularity in recent years as a way to blend education and entertainment. In this article, we’ll explore various PowerPoint Night ideas that can turn a mundane evening into a memorable one.

70 Top-Notch Powerpoint Night Ideas | Simplified

The Origin of PowerPoint Nights

The concept of a PowerPoint Night can be traced back to an episode of the hit TV series “The Office.” In Season 4, Episode 7, titled “Survivor Man,” the character Jim Halpert organizes a mock “birthday party” for his deskmate and prankster, Dwight Schrute. However, instead of cake and balloons, Jim puts together a hilariously absurd PowerPoint presentation about the history of birthday celebrations, complete with awkward and nonsensical facts. This fictional event sparked the real-world phenomenon of PowerPoint Nights.

A PowerPoint Night is a simple yet entertaining concept where participants create PowerPoint presentations on a wide range of topics. The catch? These presentations are often humorous, absurd, or even nonsensical. Participants gather to share their creations, and the audience’s enjoyment is derived from the comical or unusual content, rather than any educational value. It’s an excellent opportunity to flex your creative muscles and have a good laugh with friends or colleagues.

10 Fun "Presentation Night" Ideas

10 Fun “Presentation Night” Ideas

Presentation night may be just what you and your friends need to keep the good times rolling. here’s how to craft a fun presentation night for your friends..

What is a presentation night? In a nutshell, it’s an evening where you get together with friends and give funny presentations using slideshows (like you would at work, but with a lot more laughter). Instead of talking about sales goals and marketing strategies, guests present their bold observations and hot takes about a topic.

Whether it’s sharing how you really feel about a celebrity or why you think you were a goat-herder in a past life, a presentation night is a surefire way to get creative and learn more about your friends.

Nobody knows who had the first presentation night, but the trend has taken off over the last few years, especially as people started spending more time inside.

In fact, on TikTok alone, there are over 200 million views of videos with the hashtag #PresentationNight, as well as tons of ideas for hosting your own.

So, are you ready to start working on your dek?

Explore these fun presentation night ideas and learn how to make your presentation night slideshow in minutes.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss:

  • How to host your presentation night.
  • Entertaining presentation night ideas and examples.
  • How to make your presentation night slideshow.

Let’s get started.

How to Host a Presentation Night

When you consider how new of a trend presentation night is, the unwritten rules and etiquette of how to host yours can be pretty confusing. Do you keep things low-key and try not to overthink it? Or, should you go all out and make a big deal of it?

How you plan yours is up to you. Still, you can follow these three steps to host your presentation night with finesse:

1. Invite Your Friends

Of course, you were already going to invite your friends, right? But, who and how many friends you invite influences how intimate your presentation night turns out.

If you welcome more guests—especially those that bring a plus-one—it might be harder for the personal humor, rhythm, and energy of your inner circle to come through.

However, hosting a large group is worth it when you choose a relatable theme (and if you want to get to know some new people).

2. Choose Your Theme

There are two types of presentation night themes: a group theme or an individual theme.

A group theme is when all your guests present on the same topic. By limiting the night to one subject, you allow everyone to engage with each other and operate within a similar scope of knowledge. And, in turn, this promotes social harmony for your night.

Meanwhile, an individual theme is like an UNO Wild Card—you can choose your own topic and go as subjective, specific, and weird as you’d like.

3. Setup Your Presentation Area

Whether or not you have equipment at home, putting your own spin on your presentation setup will make your night feel special.

Be sure you have your presentation ready to go. And, remember to let your guests know which presentation software you’ll be using for the evening. (After all, there’s nothing more awkward than when your slideshow won’t show up on the screen).

Entertaining Presentation Night Ideas

What’s the secret sauce behind an unforgettable presentation night?

Simple: It starts with creative ideas. Before you wear your party host hat and mingle with your guests, discover these fun presentation night ideas and examples for any budget.

1. Rank the Songs on an Album

Presentation night slideshow example with black background and an orange header text that says "BBNY" next to Bad Bunny logo icon above a sample album cover with text to left and graphic of boy riding bike down street above the tracklist

Pick an album all your guests have listened to and know well, and have everyone present how they’d rank the best songs on it.

With a close group of friends, feel free to choose one they have strong opinions of. Or, go with a popular album if you host a lot of guests and don’t know their taste in music.

2. Your Friends as Movie and TV Characters

Presentation night slideshow example with light purple background above six faces of TV show characters divided by title text that says "Friends"

Call on your own ensemble cast of Friends and make a case for why they’re a real-life version of that movie or TV character. For everyone who believes they are a Monica or a Rachel, this one’s for you.

3. Trivia with Friends

Presentation night slideshow template with background divided by two columns and the first features headshot of woman while the second has text featuring a quiz

Prefer to get personal? Make your friends the stars of your presentation night instead.

Remind your guests to include ten trivia questions about themselves in their slideshows. Then, sit back and watch how long it takes your guests to answer them correctly.

4. Trends You Followed

Presentation night slideshow example with a green photo background behind a sunburnt woman looking to the right while wearing and lifting up pink shutter-shades

The magic of presentation night is that it helps you get to know your friends even better. Did they wear low-rise jeans in the 2000s? Are they always the first to join new social media platforms? This theme dials up the nostalgia and will have you traveling back in time.

5. Which Era Best Suits Your Friends?

Presentation night slideshow graphic design example with a tan background and the Space Needle and a clownfish and a music record behind font with iridescent grooves and text that says "1972"

Make no mistake, if there’s a character or a trivia question that speaks to you, there’s a decade for you and your friends. Share why you think it speaks to their style as much as their spirit.

6. What Would Your Friends Do in The Hunger Games ?

Presentation night slideshow example with a black background featuring the Hunger Games logo behind text that says "Areli by Yaquelinne" and "Bermudez Zamorano Yaquelinne Lizeth"

Beyond comparing your friends to a compelling era or figure, it’s also fun to imagine what they’d do in the The Hunger Games . Predict who would be fending off enemies, gathering berries, or falling asleep.

And, let the debates begin.

7. Why _____ Is Underrated

Cosmic graphic design with black background and iridescent purple and orange diagonal grooves with green, white, and blue spots behind yellow and green pineapple surfing on burnt orange pizza grease with smiley face title

Remember what we said about hot takes? Spice things up at your presentation night with a provocative topic that will have your guests defending what they consider overrated.

8. Tour Your Dream House

Presentation night slideshow template with photo background of white, brown, and black luxury home with multiple floors and palm trees and title text that says "Welcome to Penelope's Dream House Tour" while woman with sunglasses stands in front

Welcome your guests to the good life and give them a virtual tour of your dream mansion, and then have them do the same. (It’s called manifesting—ever heard of it?).

You can also customize your own presentation night slideshow template with Shutterstock Create.

If you download as a PNG or JPG, your file will export as a .ZIP file.

If you download as an MP4, you can export as a single video file or individual files.

Despite its use of productivity tools we use in offices and classrooms, presentation night is a way to play with the structure of a game night and learn more about your friends.

So, get creative, have fun, and remember to double-check your work before presenting.

How to Make a “Good” Presentation “Great”

  • Guy Kawasaki

presentation night themes

Remember: Less is more.

A strong presentation is so much more than information pasted onto a series of slides with fancy backgrounds. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others. Here are some unique elements that make a presentation stand out.

  • Fonts: Sans Serif fonts such as Helvetica or Arial are preferred for their clean lines, which make them easy to digest at various sizes and distances. Limit the number of font styles to two: one for headings and another for body text, to avoid visual confusion or distractions.
  • Colors: Colors can evoke emotions and highlight critical points, but their overuse can lead to a cluttered and confusing presentation. A limited palette of two to three main colors, complemented by a simple background, can help you draw attention to key elements without overwhelming the audience.
  • Pictures: Pictures can communicate complex ideas quickly and memorably but choosing the right images is key. Images or pictures should be big (perhaps 20-25% of the page), bold, and have a clear purpose that complements the slide’s text.
  • Layout: Don’t overcrowd your slides with too much information. When in doubt, adhere to the principle of simplicity, and aim for a clean and uncluttered layout with plenty of white space around text and images. Think phrases and bullets, not sentences.

As an intern or early career professional, chances are that you’ll be tasked with making or giving a presentation in the near future. Whether you’re pitching an idea, reporting market research, or sharing something else, a great presentation can give you a competitive advantage, and be a powerful tool when aiming to persuade, educate, or inspire others.
