Solo Movie Review
Behind The Movie Solo: Young hero Nara Rohit, Nisha Agarwal, Music Director Mani Sharma and Director Parasuram raised fair amount ofinterest on this film. With good pre release talk, Solo arrived today in theatres and let is see how far Rohit succeeded in commercial format?
In the Movie Solo: Goutham (Nara Rohit) is born as an orphan and brought up with no one of his own. His only aim in life is to marry a girl from joint family and enjoy the emotional relations of being a member in big family. Goutham soon finds his girl in the form Post Graduate Orthopedic Doctor Vyshnavi (Nisha Agarwal), daughter of Raghupathi Naidu (Prakash Raj) who has a big family in Bobbili.
Goutham along with his friends get on to the duty of wooing the girl. Though initially reluctant, Vyshnavi falls in love for sincerity and simplicity in Goutham. Thus comes hurdle in form of Raghupathi Naidu who doesn’t want to get his daughter married to an orphan because of painful experiences seen in the life of his sister (Jayasudha).
Now, Goutham too sacrifices/refuses to marry Vyshnavi without her family approval because what he wants is bonding of a joint family. Around the same time, Raghupathi Naidu fixes her daughter’s wedding with London based Doctor (Sayaji Shinde) family, who keeps a condition on physical presence of Goutham during the entire marriage event. What kind of problems raised in this love story from then on…how and when did Raghupathi Naidu realize the sincerity in Goutham forms the climax?
Values of the Movie Solo: Story and concept developed by Parasuram is pivoted only upon hero Nara Rohit. Screenplay that looked slightly different in first half has gone logically missing the sync in second half. Major strength in film is dialogues which tried to keep the feel alive in entire second half family drama. Direction wise Parasuram could not bring any solid, riveting performances from hero and heroine. Cinematography by Dasarathi Shivendra is good work while Mani Sharma’s music is regular in background and good with new tunes for a couple of songs. Editing by Marthand K Venkatesh could not sustain the patience of audience in second half. Production values of Vamsi Krishna Srinivas and SVK Cinema are over all good.
Performance wise Nara Rohit has shown wide differentiation from his first flick ‘Banam.’ He tried dances, comedy punches, overdosed sentiment and even action scenes. Yet, he needs to go a long way in order to evolve as a professional artist. Basically, his body language and face expressions are far below the required standards. Nisha Agarwal is neither a glam doll nor a performer. Director cleverly managed of skipping her face from the main frame in key scenes. Although Prakashraj and Jayasudha are restricted to clichéd roles yet they served a big relief. Comedy by Ali, Sayaji Shinde, Srinivas Reddy, Swapnika is good.
Out of the Movie Solo: Major draw back for ‘Solo’ begins only in second half because first half was more or less dealt with romantic comedy track along with establishment of hero’s character. Movie traverses to over dramatic family sentiment in second half from a time pass entertainer in first half. This is where director missed the logic by subsiding his hero. Parasuram has only a tiny point at his disposal which made him fill second half with unnecessary and unsuccessful episodes. True that, film picks up slightly by climax with fervid dialogues from Rohit, Nisha, Prakashraj and Jayasudha but it was high time by then on.
Openly speaking, poor performances from lead cast followed by unconvincing elements in second half made ‘Solo’ fall back only on seniors like Prakashraj and Jayasudha. Definitely, ‘Solo’ has many shades of ‘Bommarillu’ and ‘Parugu’ but stands little away and far near to them. Commercial success of film depends upon how families enjoy this.
Cinejosh Verdict of the Movie Solo: Not Totally Solid.

First half is fun and good. Second half has emotions. The director Parasuram has succeeded in setting up the stage right by the interval. The screenplay in second half is little predictable though the emotions in the climax episode are genuine. The plus points are story orientation and dialogues by Parasuram. On the flip side, a swift and unpredictable second half would have made this movie a special one. On a whole, Solo is a genuine attempt by the director and makes a decent watch if you ignore the lag in second half.

While looking at the film, this is the approach audience will have. But then, more than the concept, it is the content which surpasses all. It is supported by strong emotional graph and the stress on values of family and relationships is what scores the brownie points.Secondly, it is the dialogues which are written with sensibility and maturity.Overall, this is a film that will strike a chord with the family audience and emotionally driven mass audience. There are no idle moments and the film works as a perfect package of comedy, emotion and sentiment. At the box office, considering the budget and other factors, the film has it all to score success. Verdict: Debatable concept but commendable delivery

Solo is a solid love story. The film has a decent story and an interesting screenplay. There is some fairly good comedy in the first half. However the second half slows down considerably before reaching a predictable climax. The songs are good, the music is pleasant, the production values decent and some dialogues are effective. Solo is a decent entertainer with a good subject and looks into the merits of joint family system and also the subject of love – love between a boy and girl and the love of a father for his daughter. The film can be watched once. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});

Solo film’s first half will appeal to people who look for fun. Second half of the film is aimed at the families. The producer should immediately focus on attracting them to the theatres. As of now openings are not so great and it should pick up with positive feedback. Solo also has a threat from few biggies to hold its ground at the box office.

Tillu Square Review: Siddhu's Solo Show
Movie: Tillu Square Rating: 2.75/5 Banner: Sithara Entertainments Cast: Siddhu Jonnalagadda, Anupama Parameswaran, Muralidhar Goud, Prince, Murali Sharma, and others Music Director: Ram Miriyala and Achu Rajamani Background Score: Bheems Ceciroleo DOP: Sai Prakash Ummadisingu Editor: Navin Nooli Production Designer: A.S. Prakash Producers: Suryadevara Naga Vamsi and Sai Soujanya Directed by: Mallik Ram Release Date: March 29, 2024
“DJ Tillu” was a stupendous success. So, “Tillu Square”, its sequel, generated buzz and excitement since the announcement. The film is finally here.
Let’s find out whether the sequel is double the funnier or not?
Story: While Tillu (Siddhu Jonnalagadda), a DJ, tries to impress girls at a party, a drunk girl named Lily (Anupama Parameswaran) vomits on his shoes.
She apologizes to him, and he instantly starts flirting with her. Tillu and Lily kiss in the car and spend the night together, but she does not want to see him again.
A few weeks later, she reappears and tells him she is pregnant with his child. While Tillu was still 'processing’ this, his parents asked him to marry her.
On his birthday, Tillu receives a call from Lily inviting him to an apartment to meet her. When he arrives at the flat, he realizes she has called him to the same location where Radhika (Neha Shetty) had previously invited him.
At a point, Lily reveals that she is the sister of Rohit (Damaraju) who has been missing [This character is the one who was buried by Tillu in the first part].
From here, the story takes a different turn. After a series of events Lily shows different side of her character. With several twists and turns the story comes to a climax to unleash how her character culminates at the end and how Tillu transforms from an innocent victim to the other way.
Artistes’ Performances: Siddhu Jonnalagadda totally owns the film. He popularized the character Tillu, and he reprised it again with the same flair. Though there is a sense of déjà vu in his performance, the one-liners keep you laughing throughout. His energetic acting and one-liners work mainly.
Anupama Parameswaran receives a role with two shades but the so-called ‘surprising twist’ to her character has not worked much. She does more and intense liplocks in this film
Muralidhar Gowd, as Siddhu's father, cracks a handful of jokes. Murali Sharma, Prince, and others simply do routine jobs. Neha Shetty makes a guest appearance.
Technical Excellence: The songs by Ram Miriyala and Achu Rajamani are good. These songs serve the purpose and add some value. Bheems' background score is fine.
Camerawork, production design and richness have met the expectations.
The dialogues are the main attraction. Dialogue writers have done a terrific job.
Highlights: Siddhu's performance as Tillu Hilarious one-liners Twists in the crime track
Drawback: Thinline story Love track
Analysis The protagonist Tillu's life is turned upside down in "DJ Tillu" when he meets the gorgeous Radhika, played by Neha Shetty. Radhika's story does not continue in the sequel, but a new woman, Lily, played by Anupama Parameswaran, enters his life, causing him to face new issues as a result of fresh attractions. But the sequel opens by reminding us of the first story and follows the same template.
Except for the lip-lock passages between Tillu and Lily and her pregnancy track, the rest of the first half is nearly identical to the original film. Only at the interval bang does the plot change direction. From here, the film transitions from crime comedy to spy thriller.
While the entire storyline of special agents using a DJ Tillu to apprehend an international don and kill him with a 'sweet' appears absurd, this spoof-style story is perhaps intentional. Much of the film, both in the first and second halves, has a déjà vu effect and repetition.
There are lengthy sections of regular narration. But those episodes become more entertaining when Siddhu Jonnalagadda cracks a joke or two.
Siddhu's one-liners save the film when it becomes monotonous.
When "DJ Tillu" was released, the crime comedy looked fresh due to Tillu's unusual characterisation and acting. Furthermore, Neha Shetty looked stunning, and there was a sizzling chemistry in Tillu and Neha Shetty's romance. Tillu calling her 'Akka' innocently when he discovers her true identity brought the house down. But the same magic goes missing between the characters of Siddhu Jonnalagadda and Anupama Parameswaran, notwithstanding intense kiss scenes.
Also, when he says 'Akka' in this film, it sounds strange. The scenes with Prince appear ridiculous and forced. Many scenes in this track give us an impression that the writing was subpar.
Despite its short runtime, the film feels slightly dragged out due to repetition and a routine storyline.
Overall, Siddhu Jonnalagadda's performance and humorous one-liners make "Tillu Square" entertaining. Despite the lack of magic in Siddhu-Anupama's track, the film eventually becomes a passable entertainer thanks to the dialogues and inherent charm of Tillu’s character.
Bottom line: Entertaining

‘Like They Do in the Movies’ Review: Laurence Fishburne Widens His Lens
In his solo show, the screen and stage star shines a light into his formative dark corners and on the people who made an impression.

By Naveen Kumar
When Laurence Fishburne wants to get closer to audiences of his one-man show, he lowers himself into a deep squat near the lip of the stage. Hands clasped and knees spread wide, the actor — who has become an avatar of inscrutability during his half-century screen and stage career — seems to be trying to shrink himself down to life-size.
Fishburne’s indomitable presence is the muscle behind “Like They Do in the Movies,” which opened on Thursday night at the Perelman Performing Arts Center in Lower Manhattan. His vigor and gravitas are unwavering, even as Fishburne, the 62-year-old “Matrix” star, softens to reveal difficult details from his childhood and to portray others whose vulnerability made a personal impression.
Part memoir and part ethnography, the show opens with Fishburne, who played a schemer in the 2022 Broadway revival of “ American Buffalo ” and a Supreme Court justice in the 2008 one-man play “ Thurgood ,” as you’ve likely never seen him before: draped in sequins (the flowing black robes are credited to Jimi Gureje). Addressing the audience in griot fashion, Fishburne briskly sketches his early years, introducing his mother, Hattie, a charm-school matron turned abusive stage mom. Using the refrain “but more on that later,” he indicates open questions he’ll return to, including how his father fits into the picture.
These recollections have a clipped momentum, like listening to a celebrity narrate a tell-all at 1.5 speed. If the pacing makes him seem a bit guarded, it also serves a practical purpose: The production, written by Fishburne and crisply directed by Leonard Foglia, runs nearly two and half hours with an intermission. Greater economy would pack a more decisive punch, but the show rarely goes slack and Fishburne’s performance is thoroughly engrossing.
That’s especially true as he slips into the more familiar territory of playing other people, in a series of vividly drawn monologues book ended by his own reflections. The play’s title may suggest a tour through Fishburne’s own Hollywood résumé, which includes an Oscar-nominated turn as Ike Turner in “What’s Love Got to Do With It.” But here, Fishburne plays a truck packer for The New York Daily News, a Hurricane Katrina survivor and a homeless man who washes cars, among others.
Stalking Neil Patel’s sparse set — a stage with only a long table and a pair of chairs — Fishburne nimbly dons each persona with a keen and easy sensitivity. The assembly of character studies, mostly everyday New Yorker types, lacks an obvious sense of cohesiveness, though Fishburne himself emerges as the common thread.
“Like They Do in the Movies” is hard to categorize, and might have seemed like a vanity project were Fishburne not so plainly unselfconscious and willing to shine a light into his formative dark corners.
Drawing inspiration from rangy, multicharacter solo shows by Whoopi Goldberg and John Leguizamo, Fishburne spins the colorful yarns of ordinary people to position himself as an extraordinary observer. There is an organizing principle to his perspective: Every character evinces perseverance, integrity and grit; some of them articulate philosophical arguments about race, inequality and desire. The documentary-style approach is not unlike Anna Deavere Smith’s, although Fishburne’s through line is more diffuse, and his charisma as an actor is never far from the surface. (He thanks all three influences in the program.)
Fishburne has the air of wisdom of someone who, having undertaken deep self-investigation , is eager to share his findings. (The restrained undulating projections designed by Elaine J. McCarthy have a light-behind-the-eyelids feel, evoking memory and contemplation.) To the question of legacy, Fishburne seems to say: It’s not the stage and screen roles that matter, but his powers of perception — of others and of himself. It’s a skill you don’t have to be a movie star to perfect.
