About this event
Dymocks’ Beyond Words competition is a national creative writing competition for students in primary and high school. The contest challenges students to write a short story on any theme between 500-1500 words, and has a prize pool of $20,000! Our judging criteria rewards students for their ideas and creativity as well as their craft, meaning all passionate young writers are in with a chance to win! Last year we received almost 4000 entries from students around Australia. This year the prize pool is even bigger with additional prizes for the top 100 students.
In this 2-hour intensive workshop, we will use a range of interactive activities to explore what makes a great short story. Students will also begin planning and developing their entry for the Beyond Words competition.
Taught by our expert team from Dymocks Tutoring, students will cover:
- The structure of a short story
- Characters and Settings
- Language Techniques and Description
- Themes
- Guided brainstorming and planning
Don’t miss out on this chance to learn from the best and develop your storytelling skills!
